Prep basketball roundup: Syracuse holds off Box Elder in Saturday matchup
BRIGHAM CITY — A 24-17 third quarter was the difference for visiting 6A Syracuse High boys basketball in a road victory at 5A Box Elder, claiming a 69-66 decision on Saturday.
For Syracuse (6-4), Cohen Godderidge, Colton Hoenigman and Skyler Orton each scored 16 points to lead the attack and Carter Robinson added 15 points.
Box Elder (4-6) got 19 points from Jaxson Jeppsen. Eli Gilmore scored 15 points, Gunnar Gunderson 12 and Krew Peterson 11.
WEBER 61, SKYLINE 58
HOLLADAY — Weber won its sixth consecutive game with a Saturday victory over Skyline at Olympus High’s Utah Autism Classic.
Derik Bowden scored 22 points for Weber (6-3) and Thomas Packer added 17.
WEST 88, ROY 66
ROY — West outpaced Roy 48-32 in the first half on the way to a road win Saturday.
Jesse Jones had 25 points and nine rebounds to pace Roy (8-3). Rock Speredon totaled six points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Boston Greenhalgh added 17 points and seven rebounds. Anthony Parker scored 12 points.
Elijah Albertson and Matthew Fox each scored 24 points for West (2-6) and combined to shoot 10 of 18 from the 3-point line.
TAYLORSVILLE 81, BEN LOMOND 46
OGDEN — Taggart Bush racked up 27 points but Ben Lomond (1-1) couldn’t keep pace with visiting Taylorsville.
LAYTON CHRISTIAN 63, LA MIRADA-CA 58
LA VERNE, Calif. — Senior guard Gabe Sularski scored 21 points to lead Layton Christian to a win over La Mirada (California) on Saturday in the Classic at Damien.
Omar Mowafak added 15 points and nine rebounds for LCA (11-1). Roman Avdejev pitched in 10 points and seven rebounds.
LCA continues play in the tournament’s consolation bracket on Monday. La Mirada (8-6) previously tallied wins over Layton and Lone Peak this season.
CRESPI-CA 73, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 70 (OT)
LA VERNE, Calif. — Gabe Sularski totaled 21 points and seven assists but Layton Christian lost for the first time this season in an overtime defeat to Crespi (Encino, California) on Friday in the Classic at Damien.
Nikola Janicic added 13 points for LCA. Crespi (11-4) junior Isaiah Barnes totaled 28 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
