Syracuse High kicks off summer break announcing 3 new sports coaches

Titans will have new softball, cross country and boys volleyball coaches next school year

By CONNER BECKER - Standard-Examiner | Jun 3, 2025

Syracuse High School announced three new coaching hires Monday: Kristy Knight (softball), Porter Reddish (cross country), and Dana Swenson (boys volleyball). It’s the latest shakeup in the coaching carousel and the largest dump of new names this spring.

A considerable change comes on the diamond with Knight, promoted from assistant to head coach following the retirement of longtime coach Kelly Anderson. Knight’s been on the Anderson staff since 2020 and was a multi-region and state MVP at Spanish Fork in her prep days.

Knight played college softball at Utah Valley, Southern Utah and later served as a graduate assistant at the latter for two seasons. Knight’s prior coaching credits include Snow Canyon, Layton High, and Central Davis Junior High.

The Titans finished 15-13 (6-4 Region 1) in Anderson’s final season as the skipper. Syracuse dropped its opening postseason series to Herriman.

Porter Reddish, cross country

BYU alum and California native Porter Reddish becomes the next head cross country coach at Syracuse, replacing Stephanie Chambers, who prepped distance runners for track and field coach Randy Wheeler in the spring.

Reddish has a Northern Utah connection running for Ed Eyestone, a Bonneville alum and former Weber State track assistant, on BYU’s track and cross country programs. Reddish came up around current Cougar Olympians Conner Mantz, Clayton Young, Rory Linkletter and Kenneth Rooks.

Dana Swenson, boys volleyball

Syracuse filled another key coaching vacancy in boys volleyball, naming Dana Swenson the successor to longtime coach Corrie Vigil after more than 30 years of coaching the game. Vigil took up the Titans’ boys programs as the game first became sanctioned in the state.

Swenson first arrived at Syracuse in 2022 following a competitive career in Minnesota and California. Swenson previously served as Vigil’s assistant, coaching boys in the spring, and Megan Allred, coaching girls in the fall.
