BYU forward Emma Calvert (25) works to get a shot as TCU's Deasia Merrill (3) defends during a game Feb. 11, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Former Fremont High standout and four-year BYU forward Emma Calvert will continue her career and play professional basketball.

Calvert has signed to play for KP Brno in Czechia (widely known as the Czech Republic in English), BYU announced in a news release Tuesday.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to play professional basketball overseas and represent BYU,” Calvert said in a statement. “My coaches have all helped prepare me for this opportunity and I can’t wait to show the Czech Republic what I can do while representing BYU and its values.”

The 6-foot-4 forward averaged career highs of 12.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game as a senior at BYU, and was the team’s second leading scorer. That capped a career of playing 119 games, with 71 starts, for the Cougars, averaging 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds. She leaves BYU fifth all-time in blocked shots for the program with 138.

Before BYU, Calvert was a three-time Standard-Examiner All-Area Player of the Year for girls basketball.

She helped Fremont High to state championships in 2018 and 2021 and, as a senior, was the 2021 Utah player of the year, named such by both Gatorade and MaxPreps, while averaging 17.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 1.8 steals and 1.3 assists per game. The Silverwolves went 26-0 in the 2020-21 season.

Calvert holds the Utah girls basketball single-season record for field goal percentage, shooting 66.1% as a junior in the 2019-20 season.

“We are thrilled to be a part of Emma signing her first professional contract,” new BYU head coach Lee Cummard said in a statement. “She has worked hard and is now seeing the results of that hard work and a great college career. Her opportunity comes with a team in a great city that plays both internationally in the Eurocup and in the Czech league. KP Brno has expectations to win, and win a lot. We are excited to support Emma this upcoming season.”

KP Brno finished in third place in the 2024-25 Czech ZBL women’s league and also took third in the playoffs. Brno is a city of about 400,000 people in the southeast part of Czechia.

Starting at $4.32/week.
