Prep roundup: Boys lacrosse claims first-ever region title for West Field

By Standard-Examiner - | May 1, 2025

With two games left, West Field High’s boys lacrosse team made history Wednesday, defeating Logan 19-5 and securing at least a share of the school’s first-ever region championship in any team sport. The top-ranked Longhorns enter their first-ever postseason as a clear favorite for the 4A crown after claiming the Region 11 title in its only year in the region.

Led by former Roy coach Zach Colohan, West Field (13-3, 10-0 Region 11) added a sixth consecutive win by beating Logan and now prepares for a gritty contest at Bear River (12-2, 7-2) on Wednesday, May 7. One more win assures West Field of the outright region championship.

“This is a monumental day for West Field High School,” WF athletic director Mike Russell said in a statement on the school’s website. “This (winning region) is a testament to the hard work of our student-athletes, the leadership of Coach Colohan and his staff, and the spirit of our entire school community. We congratulate the boys lacrosse team on their historic achievement and setting a new standard for West Field Athletics.”

West Field and Bear River are slated for a 7 p.m. Wednesday start in Garland; the Longhorns finish the regular season Friday, May 9, hosting Green Canyon.
