Prep roundup: Bonneville’s Johnson takes golf win; Box Elder softball, Davis baseball claim region shares

SYRACUSE — Six Northern Utah girls golfers cleaned up for top 10 finishes at the Region 5 tournament on Tuesday at Glen Eagle Golf Course. Carding a field-low 74, Bonneville’s Whitni Johnson tied Kennedee Pearson of Woods Cross for first individually, leading the Lakers in a runner-up finish to champion WX.

Bonneville’s Anna Umbrell, shooting 78 on the day, medaled alongside Johnson, Pearson, Box Elder’s Izabel Nelson (4th, 79) and Olivia White (5th, 80) in the top 5. The final tournament also solidified Bonneville as the regular-season region runner-up to WX despite a season-best 324 shot by the Lakers on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

BOX ELDER 19, WOODS CROSS 4

BRIGHAM CITY — Woods Cross (7-14, 4-10 Region 5) took a 4-0 lead before Box Elder batted, then the Bees scored 19 runs on 12 hits in a three-inning win to claim a share of the Region 5 title.

Kailee Hall batted 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for Box Elder (24-3, 13-1). Alexis Hales hit two doubles with three RBIS. Jenna Marble batted 2 for 3 with a double and drove in six.

Izibel Mason went 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Lucy Griffin batted 2 for 3. Maclee Willard hit an RBI double. Lucy Braegger earned the win with one hit and four strikeouts in three innings of relief.

CLEARFIELD 8, VIEWMONT 2

CLEARFIELD — Viewmont (10-13, 7-7 Region 5) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, then Clearfield scored eight unanswered runs in a region win.

Abbie Hale batted 2 for 3 for Clearfield (13-8, 10-4). Lilly Lara, Brynn Nicholls and Skylar Davis each hit an RBI single. Alexandra Bingham, Lyla Leonhardt and Addyson Haddock each hit a single. Jenna Lloyd pitched a complete game with seven hits, one earned run, two walks and eight strikeouts in the win.

FREMONT 9, SYRACUSE 3

PLAIN CITY — Fremont took a 8-0 lead after three innings in a region win over Syracuse.

Savannah Palmatier batted three for four with a home run, a double and five RBIs for Fremont (10-13, 7-2 Region 1). Saige Steele batted 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI. Adee Johnsen went 2 for 3 and drove in one.

Cara Henrie and Olivia Broadbent each batted 2 for 4. Johnsen pitched a complete game with five hits, two earned runs, two walks and one strikeout.

Hannah Reed batted 2 for 3 with an RBI for Syracuse (14-11, 5-4). Grace Thomas, Brielle Pierce and Brooklyn Sackolwits each hit a single.

BOUNTIFUL 12, BONNEVILLE 8

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville plated four runners in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead, then gave up 11 consecutive runs in a region loss to Bountiful (23-4, 13-1 Region 5).

Ellee Summers hit a home run and two doubles and drove in six for Bonneville (7-16, 5-9). Madilynn DeGroot batted 4 for 4 with a double. Marley Chournos and Andie Elmer each hit a single.

DAVIS 15, CYPRUS 3

KAYSVILLE — Davis trailed 1-0 after one inning, then scored 11 runs in the second frame in a Monday five-inning win over Cyprus.

Riley Jaques batted 4 for 4 with two home runs, two doubles and right RBIs for Davis (19-6). Hadlee Isaacs went 2 for 3 with a home run and a double and drove in four. Jewel Korth batted 3 for 4 with one RBI and three runs scored.

Ella Nielson hit two singles and drove in one. Adelyn Turpin added an RBI single. Cambell Christensen got the win with five hits, three earned runs, two walks and six strikeouts.

NORTHRIDGE 9, VIEWMONT 8

LAYTON — Northridge scored five runs in the fifth inning to tie the game 8-8, then scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth for a region win over Viewmont (10-12, 7-6 Region 5) on Monday.

Kaydence Chournos hit two solo home runs for Northridge (6-14, 3-10). Kaylee Shirreffs batted 3 for 4 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Jayden Anderson, Berklee Larsen and Tara Richards each went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Aubrey Solomon got the win with three hits, one earned run, three walks and four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings of relief.


BASEBALL

DAVIS 3, FARMINGTON 2

FARMINGTON — Davis scored the winning run in the sixth inning to win at Farmington (5-19, 3-11 Region 1). The win gives Davis at least a share of the region crown.

Owen Talbot batted 3 for 3 with two RBIs for Davis (18-6, 12-2). Jaxon Marble went 2 for 3 with a double. Carter Garrett hit an RBI single and Tyson Baggett added a single. Spencer Cannon got the win with one hit in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

FREMONT 2, LAYTON 1

LAYTON — Tad Grange pitched a complete game with four hits, two walks and three strikeouts to lead Fremont to a win at Layton.

Kasen Pearson hit a double for Fremont (18-6, 11-3 Region 1). Tyson Grieve and Cole Sanders each hit an RBI single. Owen Simkins singled and scored a run.

Fish Manning batted 2 for 3 and drove in one for Layton (10-13, 9-5). Tanner Neil and Nik Bielaczyc each hit a double while Austin Pritchett got a hit.

SYRACUSE 7, WEBER 3

PLEASANT VIEW — Calder Millard batted 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and pitched a complete game with three hits, one earned run and eight strikeouts as Syracuse won at Weber.

Caleb Wilson hit an RBI double for Syracuse (7-15, 5-9 Region 1). Easton Hamblin drove in two with a single. Kysen Gallegos and Ethan Turley each hit an RBI single.

Ridge Torman batted 2 for 3 with a double for Weber (3-20, 2-12). Easton Pratt hit a double.

VIEWMONT 7, ROY 1

BOUNTIFUL — Roy was held to four hits in a loss at Viewmont (16-9, 11-3 Region 5).

Jack Sorensen, Kaiden Bates, Connor Robinson and Parker Skidmore each hit a single for Roy (11-14, 3-11).

DAVIS 8, FARMINGTON 5

KAYSVILLE — Farmington scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-4 lead, then Davis scored four in the fifth to take the lead for good in a region win Monday.

Owen Talbot batted 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Davis. Kaleb Weaver went 2 for 4 with a double and drove in two. Brody Mcguire hit an RBI double. Wally Grant and Cayman Sanchez each hit two singles with Grant driving in one. Grant got the win with four earned runs, five hits and three strikeouts over four innings.

FREMONT 6, LAYTON 1

PLAIN CITY — Chase Jones batted 3 for 3 and pitched a complete game with four hits, three walks and 10 strikeouts to lead Fremont to a region win over Layton on Monday.

Tyson Grieve went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Fremont. Cole Sanders and Kasen Pearson each hit an RBI double. Brant Koford added a double.

Fish Manning hit a solo home run for Layton. Ethan Clark hit a double while Tanner Neil and Will Hoffman each hit a single.

WEBER 12, SYRACUSE 2

SYRACUSE — Weber jumped out to a 10-0 lead after three innings in a region win at Syracuse on Monday.

Aiden Rodarte batted 3 for 4 with a triple, a double, and RBI and two runs scored for Weber. Jace Redd went 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI. Riley Morris hit an RBI double. Jarett Hill batted 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored three runs, and earned the win with one hit and five strikeouts over four innings.

Ethan Turley and Colsten Thomas each hit an RBI single for Syracuse. Dom Johnatakis hit a double and Burkon Beus hit two singles.

VIEWMONT 3, ROY 2

ROY — Viewmont took a 3-0 lead after two innings and Roy’s rally came up short in a region contest on Monday.

Parker Skidmore batted 2 for 3 and drove in one for Roy. Ksaiden Bates hit a double and Jack Sorensen hit an RBI single.

NORTHRIDGE 6, CLEARFIELD 2

CLEARFIELD — Clearfield scored two runs in the first inning to tie the game 2-2, then Northridge scored four unanswered for a region win Monday.

Isaac Anderson hit a solo home run for Northridge (15-9, 7-6 Region 5). Kam Shirreffs batted 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Trevin Redd and Boston Wright each hit two singles. Tyler Martin hit a double and Ryan Small got a hit. Shirreffs got the win in a complete game with five hits, three walks and nine strikeouts.

Ryan Frei hit an RBI single for Clearfield (12-12, 8-5). Logan Fenn, George Garcia, Hudson Meyer and Taven Swartz each hit a single. Colt Chambers drove in one with a walk.

BOX ELDER 5, BONNEVILLE 4 (9)

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Box Elder scored one run in the top of the ninth inning to win Monday at Bonneville.

Maddox Earnest hit a solo home run for Box Elder (6-17, 3-10 Region 5). Easton Green hit two doubles and drove in three. Korbin Jeppesen and Judd Howells each hit two singles. Bosten Steacie got the win in five innings of relief, with two hits, one earned run and eight strikeouts.

Paden Toula batted 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for Bonneville (9-15, 3-10). Jet Hirschi hit an RBI triple. Jaygen Noble went 2 for 5 and drove in one. Hudson Taylor, Adam Field and Wade Larsen each hit a single.

BRIGHAM CITY — Parker Thompson scored in the second half to lead Box Elder (3-14, 3-11 Region 5) to a region win over Woods Cross (6-9, 6-8).
