Prep roundup: Davis baseball wins Region 1; Ogden volleyball stunned in 3A quarterfinals loss

KAYSVILLE — Davis High baseball survived a seven-run Farmington (5-20, 3-12 Region 1) second inning with a seven-run answer in the bottom half, then pulled away to win and claim the Region 1 championship with a 14-9 victory Wednesday.
Owen Talbot batted 4 for 5 and scored four runs for Davis (19-6, 13-2). Wally Grant hit 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Jaxon Marble, Brody McGuire and Carter Garrett also had two RBIs. McGuire hit two doubles. Sam Sevy pitched one out into the third, leaving with an 8-7 lead and was credited with the victory, allowing seven unearned runs (Davis was charged with five errors) in 2 1/3 frames.
FREMONT 16, LAYTON 1
PLAIN CITY — Fremont took care of Layton in four innings to secure a second-place region finish for the Silverwolves.
Brant Koford hit a two-run homer in the first inning to get things going for Fremont (19-6, 12-3 Region 1). Jace Hadley allowed two hits in four innings. Tyson Grieve batted 2 for 3 with four RBIs. Chase Jones, Adam Mikesell and Cole Sanders each drove in two runs.
Nik Bielaczyc doubled and Paul York singled for Layton’s (10-14, 9-6) two hits.
SYRACUSE 8, WEBER 7
SYRACUSE — Calder Millard led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run to give Syracuse a walk-off win and series victory over Weber in the regular-season finale.
Millard finished 3 of 4 with a double and four RBIs to lead Syracuse (8-15, 6-9 Region 1). Bronx Manning hit 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Burkon Beus scored three runs from the leadoff spot. Caleb Wilson got the complete-game victory, allowing three earned runs on eight hits while striking out eight and walking one.
Easton Pratt drove in two runs for Weber (3-21, 2-13). Eastyn Baker tripled while Jace Redd and Jarett Hill each hit a double.
BOX ELDER 9, BONNEVILLE 4
BRIGHAM CITY — Judd Howells hit a grand slam in the second inning and a three-run homer in the third to push Box Elder past Bonneville.
Easton Green hit a solo homer for Box Elder (7-17, 4-10 Region 5). Jensen Kennedy allowed zero earned runs on four hits in a complete game, striking out eight and walking four.
Wade Larsen and Trevyn Sears drove in one each for Bonneville (9-16, 3-11). Hudson Taylor hit a double.
CLEARFIELD 8, NORTHRIDGE 3
LAYTON — Brody Unck allowed one run on seven hits, striking out four and walking one in six innings, to lead Clearfield to a road win and a third-place region finish.
Colt Chambers batted 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for Clearfield (13-12, 9-5 Region 5). Hudson Meyer drove in two. Logan Fenn batted 2 for 3 and scored twice. Elijah Rosario had two hits.
Boston Wright hit 3 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored from the leadoff spot for fifth-place Northridge (15-10, 7-7). Jon Olsen drove in two. Isaac Anderson hit a triple.
VIEWMONT 7, ROY 1
BOUNTIFUL — Roy managed four hits in a road loss at region champ Viewmont (16-9, 11-3 Region 5).
For Roy (11-14, 3-11), Jack Sorensen, Connor Robinson, Parker Skidmore and Kaiden Bates each singled. Jace Barela pitched two shutout relief innings, allowing one hit while striking out two and walking zero.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
GRANTSVILLE 3, OGDEN 1
OREM — No. 8 Grantsville stunned No. 1 Ogden in the 3A boys volleyball quarterfinals 15-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-22 on Wednesday night at Utah Valley University after Ogden swept both regular-season meetings between the region foes.
No stats were provided. Ogden (21-6) plays No. 4 Juab at 1 p.m. Thursday in consolation play. The winner plays at 2:15 p.m. for fifth place.
MORGAN 3, AM HERITAGE 2
OREM — Down 3-1, No. 3 Morgan rallied to beat No. 6 American Heritage 25-16, 23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10 late Wednesday night to advance to the 3A semifinals. No stats were provided.
Morgan (21-8) plays No. 2 Salt Lake Academy (24-6) at 11:45 a.m. Thursday. The winner plays in the 3A championship match at 7 p.m., the loser plays for third place at 2:15 p.m.

Kaylee Shirreffs hit 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs for Northridge (7-14, 4-10 Region 5). Madisyn Lecour hit two doubles and drove in two runs. Gracie Butte allowed zero earned runs on two hits, striking out three in four innings.
Isabel Cline singled and scored a run for Roy (0-20, 0-14). Kate Cochran also tallied a single.

HERRIMAN — Macie Clark hit 2 for 3 with two RBIs but Layton fell at Mountain Ridge.
