Davis softball finishes Region 1 unbeaten

GARLAND — Bella Dougals hit two home runs, a double and drove in five to lead No. 1 Bear River High softball to a five-inning, 11-0 shutout win over No. 16 Stansbury (12-12) in Game 1 of the 4A playoff super regional series Thursday.

Sami Theurer batted 4 for 4 and scored three runs for Bear River (27-2). Luci Roche hit two doubles and drove in two. Londyn Gamble and Allie Aoki each hit an RBI single while Marley Tisdol added a single.

The teams conclude the series Friday.

WEST FIELD 17, SKY VIEW 2

TAYLOR — No. 3 West Field scored six runs in the first inning and added nine runs in the second for a four-inning win over Region 11 rival and No. 14 seed Sky View (12-19), taking the first game of the 4A playoff super regional, best-of-three series by a 17-2 final score.

Clair Nessen batted 3 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored for West Field (16-4). Kam Bell went 2 for 2 with two doubles, one RBI and scored three runs. Ayzlee Sessions batted 2 for 2 with one RBI. Brylee Leatherwood hit a two-run double.

Ellie Koford hit a two-run single and Addi Gibson added an RBI single. Brinklee Hadley batted 2 for 2 with two RBIs and pitched a complete game with five hits, one earned run and eight strikeouts.

The series concludes Friday.

MORGAN 6, PROV HALL 5

SPANISH FORK — Lexi Hardman’s infield single scored Eva Birkeland to give No. 2 Morgan a walk-off win over No. 7 Providence Hall (16-9) in the first round of 3A double-elimination bracket play in Spanish Fork.

Hardman batted 4 for 5 with a double and an RBI for Morgan (18-6). Birkeland went 3 for 4 with a double. Kassidy Wardell batted 2 for 4 with a double and drove in three.

Kaiya Peterson and Joesi Kelly each went 2 for 4 and Kelly drove in one. Addy Cragun hit an RBI single. Birkeland got the win with two hits, one earned run and five strikeouts in three innings of relief.

The Trojans advance to face Region 13 rival No. 3 Union (18-10) at 10 a.m. Friday in the quarterfinals.

DAVIS 7, FARMINGTON 4

FARMINGTON — Davis completed an undefeated region slate with a win over Farmington.

Norah Sunderland batted 3 for 4 with a triple, a double and two RBIs for Davis (21-6, 10-0 Region 1). Adelyn Turpin and Riley Jaques each batted 2 for 4. Jaques hit a double and drove in two. Sophia Slouf and Jewel Korth each hit an RBI single. Campbell Christiensen got the win with four earned runs, five walks and three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.

Brooklyn Wright and Morgan Rogers each hit a double for Farmington (11-10, 3-6). Kiley Gazafy, Jane Frey and Sophia Strong each hit an RBI single.

FREMONT 15, LAYTON 10 (8)

LAYTON — Layton scored six runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-7 lead, then Fremont scored three runs in the seventh to force extra innings and five runs in the eighth to claim a win and finish second in Region 1.

Cara Henrie batted 4 for 6 with a double and three RBIs for Fremont (11-13, 8-2 Region 1). Jessica Broadbent, Adee Johnsen, Brooklyn Himelright and Saige Steele each batted 3 for 5. Broadbent had a triple and four RBIs. Johnsen and Himelright each had a double and two RBIs. Steele had a double and drove in one. Savannah Palmatier went 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI.

Nora Morrow batted 2 for 5 with three RBIs for Layton (4-20, 1-9). Serenity Overton and Ryleigh Newey each hit two singles and drove in two. Lexie Himle went 2 for 5 with a double. Megan Child hit an RBI single.

SYRACUSE 18, WEBER 9

PLEASANT VIEW — Grace Thomas hit a home run, three doubles and drove in six to lead Syracuse to a high-scoring win over Weber.

Liv Harker went 3 for 4 with a double, a sacrifice fly and three RBIs for Syracuse (15-11, 6-4 Region 1). Oaklee Derrickson batted 3 for 4 with a double and drove in two. Jaidyn Franco went 2 for 4 with one RBI. Hannah Reed hit a two-run single. Brooklyn Sackolwits and Liv Brown each hit an RBI single.

Morgan Dixon batted 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs for Weber (3-21, 1-9). Ari Hillan went 3 for 3 with a double.

Aliya Rhees hit an RBI single while Jade Kulpa and Gabby Montgomery each hit a single.


BASEBALL

BEAR RIVER 10, PROVO 0

GARLAND — Bear River plated six runners in the fourth inning to down No. 10 Provo (18-9) in five innings in Game 1 of the best-of-three, 4A second-round super regional series.

Holden Potter batted 1 for 2 with a double, two walks and three runs scored, and pitched a complete game for the win with one hit and eight strikeouts for Bear River (18-7).

Dallen Rice batted 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Broxton Gardner went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Nick Oliverson batted 2 for 2 and drove in two. Jackson Barfuss hit a two-run single.

The teams conclude the series Friday.

MORGAN 9, SOUTH SUMMIT 3

MORGAN — Morgan scored five runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-2 lead in a win over No. 13 South Summit (7-15) in the first game of the 3A super regional series.

Lincoln Gilson batted 2 for 3 and scored two runs for Morgan (18-8). Easton Venz hit a double and drove in three. George Jensen hit an RBI single. Beck Sheffield drew three walks and scored two runs. Cooper Stuart earned the win with two hits, one earned run, six walks and six strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.

The series concludes Friday.

DIXIE 13, WEST FIELD 5

ST. GEORGE — No. 11 West Field took a 5-2 lead in the third inning, then gave up 11 unanswered runs in the first game of the 4A playoff super regionals at No. 6 Dixie (17-9).

Tyke Johnson batted 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs for West Field (17-12). Brady Penland batted 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Tyce Abbott went 2 for 4.

The teams conclude the series Friday.

CANYON VIEW 19, OGDEN 9

CEDAR CITY — No. 16 Ogden gave up eight runs in the first inning and eight in the third in a loss at No. 1 Canyon View (21-5) in the first game of the 3A playoff super regional series.

Lucas Bushell hit a home run and a double and drove in three for Ogden (5-21). Rodrigo Torres hit a three-run homer. Denver Rhodes batted 2 for 4. Kash Thompson hit an RBI double and Xavier Aldous added a double.

The series concludes Friday.
