Ogden junior Avery Barton renewed her status as a state favorite with her third regular-season victory at the Region 12 cross country championships on Tuesday afternoon at the Weber County Fairgrounds.

Barton, claiming the girls 3-mile race with a field-best 17:40.60, led five total top-10 Tigers — joining junior Clara Geddes (third, 20:06.26), junior Georgia Smith (fifth, 21:00.48), sophomore Olivia Geddes (seventh, 22:09.50) and sophomore Ally Stark (10th, 22:31.59) — to a team title.

Sliding into the top five, Morgan junior Alexis Cox placed fourth individually with 20:20.34, and sophomore teammate Allison Farnsworth finished eighth at 22:11.36. Freshman Liege Ferrier led Ben Lomond with a top-25 finish of 24:21.77.

On the boys side, BL senior Daniel Budge put the Scots front and center despite missing individual champion Cooper Clark of Grantsville by roughly 3 seconds. Budge’s final time of 16:13.93 still finished 21 seconds faster than Grantsville’s Zachary Nordgren in third place.

Morgan senior Jonas Archibald (16:41.71) edged out Ogden junior Daniel Ekstrom (16:47.65) for fifth place, and the Trojans picked up two more top-10 finishes by junior Caleb Lewis (7th, 16:50.23), and senior Henry Rose (9th, 16:53.44) in the following moments.

Thornley, Skousen net Region 1 titles

Layton sophomore Eliza Thornley won the Region 1 girls championship, commencing Wednesday afternoon following the end of all Region 12 races at the Weber County Fairgrounds.

Thornley’s 17:55.67 final time beat out Davis runner-up Isabella Cram by roughly 19 seconds.

On the boys side, Davis juniors Harrison Skousen and Noah Hauck placed first and second with final times of 15:17.34 and 15:26.99 in leading the Darts to a team victory. Layton senior Colin Pugmire finished third individually at 15:27.17.

Region 1 girls team scores were not finalized on SportTrax as of Wednesday night.
