Prep football roundup: Bessinger’s 6 TDs send Davis to another blowout win

HOLLADAY — Tradon Bessinger passed 36 of 46 for 401 yards and six touchdowns as Davis High football beat up Olympus (2-3) in a 42-14 road decision Friday.

Bode Sparrow caught 10 of those passes for 110 yards and three touchdowns offensively for Davis (4-1) while grabbing two interceptions and recording two tackles for loss on defense. Isaac Morrison totaled 129 yards on nine receptions. Makaio Byrd totaled 67 receiving yards for two scores and rushed for 38 yards.

Ethan Lockwood totaled 10 tackles, Tyson Baggett also recorded an interception, and Davis totaled 9.5 tackles for loss.

Bessinger started the game with three 22-yard TD passes in the first quarter (the first two to Byrd, the third to Sparrow). Sparrow caught a 1-yard score to put the Darts up 28-0 at halftime; Bessinger was 25 of 31 for 301 yards at halftime.

Bessinger threw a 1-yard TD to Morrison and a 3-yard score to Sparrow in the fourth quarter.

SYRACUSE 25, ALTA 20

SANDY — Ledger Wight threw three touchdown passes to Bracken Lessey and Syracuse won at Alta.

Syracuse (3-1) got on the board when Wight and Lessey connected for a 28-yard score, and a two-point conversion gave the Titans an 8-7 lead, which they took into halftime.

Lessey took a Wight toss 30 yards for a score, then Skyler Orton converted a 35-yard field goal to give Syracuse an 18-7 lead with 4:11 left in the third quarter. After an 80-yard Alta touchdown pass, Lessey scored on a 6-yard Wight pass for a 25-13 lead with 8:16 left in the game.

Alta cut the margin to 25-20 with 4:03 left in the game, then Syracuse ran out the clock.

NORTHRIDGE 25, LOGAN 19

LOGAN — Rylan Rude scored on a 9-yard run and a two-point conversion gave Northridge a 25-6 lead late in the third quarter, then the Knights held off a spirited Logan comeback bid for a road win.

Northridge (1-3) opened the scoring when Liam Fresques tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Dontae Dyson. Early in the second quarter, Korbin Christy scored on a 71-yard run. Ryker Horne booted a 27-yard field goal as the first half expired, and the Knights led 17-6.

After Rude’s score, Logan scored on touchdown passes of 22 and 20 yards. Northridge got the ball back with 3:57 left in the game and ran out the clock to ensure the Knights’ first win.

LEHI 42, WEBER 8

LEHI — Carter Payne tossed a 76-yard touchdown pass to Josh Hamblin midway through the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late as Weber (2-3) spotted Lehi a 42-0 lead in a road loss.

STANSBURY 56, BEAR RIVER 14

STANSBURY PARK — Korver Riley scored on a 63-yard run and connected with Glaiden Behrens for a 98-yard touchdown pass but Bear River (1-4, 0-2 Region 11) found themselves on the wrong side of a lopsided score at Stansbury (4-1, 1-1).

OGDEN — St. Joseph grabbed a region sweep over Altamont (5-7, 3-6 Region 22) by scores of 25-19, 24-13, 25-22.

Sophia Fischer paced St. Joseph (7-6, 3-1) with nine kills, five assists, three blocks, three digs and two aces. Mya Rogers added eight kills, nine digs and four aces. Sophie Yates had 12 digs and six aces while Regan Fischer tallied 15 assists, eight digs and one block.
