Prep football: Parker, Judd help Weber survive Region 1 road test at Farmington

By CHAD PRITCHETT - Special to the Standard-Examiner | Sep 19, 2025

FARMINGTON — There’s not a lot of mystery surrounding the Weber Warrior offense.

Get the ball into the hands of Dyson Parker and get out of the way.

In a contest with several turnovers, but not a lot of defense, it was the slippery Parker who shouldered the offensive burden in leading the Warriors to a 35-31, come-from-behind victory over Farmington to open Region 1 play.

Weber took the lead on three separate occasions before coughing it up twice, but it was the third and final go-ahead score where Parker made a lasting impression.

With 4:35 to play, down 31-28 and the ball at the Weber 41, Parker received a handoff on each of the next seven snaps. The final 4-yard run culminated with him in the end zone to put the Warriors up for good, and Cade Judd jumped on a fumbled Farmington snap in the closing seconds to seal it.

“It was a good game on how to finish, and that’s exactly what we did,” Parker said. “It’s just about big-time players make big-time plays all the time. (Farmington) knew what was coming, they just didn’t execute, or, more or less, my team executed better.”

In the newly condensed Region 1 with only four league matchups, the two squads apparently tried to cram all of the excitement into one evening.

Neither defense is going to enjoy watching this one on film. Chunk runs and deep passes were the norm from the opening kickoff, but there were moments when, either through good fortune or offensive miscues, each defensive unit was able to swing the momentum.

Farmington opened the night by driving 72 yards only to clang a 25-yard field goal attempt off the right upright. But the Phoenix were gifted another opportunity following an interception by Grant Preston deep in Warrior territory.

This time, Jaxon Beynon’s 26-yard field goal was true to put Farmington on top 3-0.

Weber countered with an 80-yard drive of its own, capped by a 1-yard scoring toss on a rollout from Carter Payne to Kelton Tree.

Farmington immediately answered with Drew Love twisting in for a touchdown following a long drive. The Phoenix then forced a rare punt and capitalized with Will Peterson connecting with Chase Hamblin for six on a 5-yard slant, making it 17-7 with 4:46 to play in the first half.

Turnovers nearly plagued Weber again when Farmington’s Easton Hunt hauled in an interception, but the Warriors caught a break when Hayes Smith forced a fumble in the Phoenix backfield, then scooped and scored on a 60-yard return.

Love pushed Farmington’s lead back to 10 on the ensuing possession with a 4-yard run up the heart of the defense.

The Warriors had a chance to get points right before the half, going 42 yards in 36 seconds, but Farmington intercepted a last-gasp toss into the end zone as time expired.

But the sliver of momentum earned on the final drive was evident as the second half commenced for Weber.

The Warriors went even more up-tempo out of the break and pulled to within a field goal at 24-21 following a 6-yard Parker run where he narrowly stayed in bounds and hopped over the final defender for the score.

“It’s a mindset,” Parker said. “We’re a 48-minute team. We’ve got the mindset that it doesn’t matter the score, we’re going to come out and fight every single time.

“We didn’t have to change up anything; just eliminate the turnovers and just play our game.”

Weber followed the score by forcing a three-and-out and a punt. The Warriors went 87 yards in eight plays, with Parker finishing it off from the 1 to move on top 28-24 at the 2:41 mark of the third.

With just over eight minutes to play, Farmington’s Kava Fiefia snatched the lead back on a 10-yard run following a direct snap.

The Phoenix defense stiffened momentarily, compelling the Warriors to kick it away. Weber returned the favor and forced Farmington into a punting situation; however, the snap sailed over the punter’s head. He chased it down and recovered enough to get a short kick off, but left the Warriors with a relatively short field leading to the winning touchdown.

After Parker’s go-ahead score with 2:25 to play, it appeared that the Warriors had left too much time on the clock.

Farmington swiftly moved down the field and was in stellar shape at the Weber 19 with over half a minute still left on the clock, but that’s when Judd pounced on the fumbled snap to secure the victory.
