Spring break prep roundup: Roy baseball tops Ogden; Bear River softball wins twice

OGDEN — Parker Skidmore pitched a five-inning two-hitter, allowing one earned run while striking out five as Roy High baseball defeated Ogden 12-1 on Friday.

Logan Vorwaller batted 2 for 3 and drove in two for Roy (6-7). Lincoln Baty and Chase Moran each drove in two with a single. Skidmore added a sacrifice fly. The Royals took a 7-0 lead in the second inning.

Jonah Holmes hit an RBI single for Ogden (4-13). Xavier Aldous hit a single while Cristian Martinez was hit by a pitch and scored the Tigers’ run.

UNION 7, OGDEN 0

ROOSEVELT — Union held Ogden to three hits and the Tigers gave up four runs in the sixth inning in a shutout loss Thursday.

Easton Green, Lucas Bushell and Rodrigo Torres each hit a single for Ogden (4-12). Bushell and Xavier Aldous combined on the mound for five hits, seven earned runs, five walks and five strikeouts.

CLEARFIELD 11, GREEN CANYON 9

NORTH LOGAN — Clearfield scored four runs in the seventh inning in a win Wednesday at Green Canyon.

Ethan Reimer batted 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for Clearfield (4-9). Brady Reynolds went 3 for 5 and drove in one. Ryan Frei and Brodie Deal each hit two singles. Deal got the win, allowing one earned run on six hits over four innings of relief.

OLYMPUS 12, FREMONT 3

PLAIN CITY — Fremont gave up six runs in the seventh inning in a Wednesday loss to Olympus.

Ashur Clark batted 2 for 4 for Fremont (6-5). Hunter Maycock hit a double and Calvin Cooper hit a two-run single.

BEAR RIVER 11, STANSBURY 6

GARLAND — Stephen Starnes batted 4 for 4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored as Bear River bested Stansbury (5-9, 1-4 Region 11) on Tuesday.

Chipper Hawes batted 3 for 4 with a solo home run for Bear River (13-2, 4-1). Ethan Higgs went 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI. Jackson Barfuss added two hits. Broxton Gardner earned the win with six hits, one run and three strikeouts over five innings.

COTTONWOOD 14, MORGAN 13

MURRAY — Morgan gave up four runs across the sixth and seventh innings in a walkoff loss Tuesday at Cottonwood.

Tyson Talbot batted 3 for 5 with a triple and three RBIs for Morgan (9-7). Easton Venz went 3 for 6 with a double and two RBIs. Marcus Trease hit two doubles and Cooper Stuart drove in two on two singles. Karson Black and Owen Gilson each had two hits and one RBI.

LAYTON 4, FREMONT 2

LAYTON — Will Hoffman hit a two-run home run for Layton that proved to be the difference in a win over Fremont on Monday.

Nik Bielaczyc hit an RBI triple for Layton (8-4). Jowell Dasni hit an RBI single while Zane Morgan and Austin Pritchett each had a hit. Pritchett earned the win, allowing three hits with one strikeout in three innings of relief.

Crew Hudman batted 2 for 2 with a double for Fremont (6-4). Adam Mikesell went 2 for 4. Bodee Hawkins hit an RBI single. Tad Grange drove in one and pitched a complete game with five hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

RIDGELINE 3, BEAR RIVER 1

GARLAND — Bear River out-hit Ridgeline (8-4, 3-1 Region 11) but couldn’t turn baserunners into runs in a region loss Monday.

Stephen Starnes batted 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI for Bear River. Jackson Barfuss, Boston White and Dallen Rice each hit a single. Starnes took the loss with five hits and three strikeouts over four innings.

DESERET PEAK 8, MORGAN 1

TOOELE — Karson Black and Kolby Kendell each had two hits but Morgan fell Monday at Deseret Peak.

BEAR RIVER 15, DESERET PEAK 9

TOOELE — Paycie Richards, Kate Wilson, Londyn Gamble and Brielle Gardiner each hit a home run as Bear River took a region win at Deseret Peak (8-8, 4-1 Region 11) on Tuesday.

Gamble added three singles, a double and an RBI for Bear River (11-4, 4-1). Richards added a double and drove in four. Gardiner’s big fly drove in three and Wilson’s dinger drove in two. Wilson got the win with three earned runs, three hits and five strikeouts over three innings.

BEAR RIVER 5, RIDGELINE 4

GARLAND — Molly Canfield hit a two-run home run as Bear River grabbed a region win over Ridgeline (9-5, 3-2 Region 11) on Monday.

Kate Wilson batted 2 for 3 with a double and drove in three for Bear River. Wilson also pitched a complete game with six hits, three earned runs, one walk and five strikeouts. Kailyn Ric, Londyn Gamble, Cora Miller and Marley Tisdol each had a hit.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 2 def. GRANGER 2 (5-4 PK)

LAYTON — Layton Christian Academy outshot Granger (7-2) in penalty kicks by a 5-4 count for a home win Thursday after a 2-2 draw in regulation and extra time.

Alex Oliveira and Mateus Freire each netted in the first half for Layton Christian Academy (7-4). Gustavo Medeiros and Filipe Scherer each tallied one assist.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 3, SKYRIDGE 2

LEHI — Pedro Neto, Fred Oliveira and Mateus Freire each scored in the first half as Layton Christian won Tuesday at Skyridge. Gabriel Neumayer assisted one goal.

ST. JOSEPH 5, AM LEADERSHIP 2

SPANISH FORK — St. Joseph scored four second-half goals to turn a 2-1 deficit into a region win Tuesday at American Leadership Academy (4-5, 2-4).

Alex Hernandez had three goals and an assist for St. Joseph (5-3, 4-2 Region 17). Sebastian Fiederer added a goal and an assist. Ben Betancourt netted once and Quinn Vasquez assisted two goals.
