PLEASANT VIEW – The coaching search for Weber High’s next head boys basketball coach ended this weekend with a former BYU hooper.

The Warriors introduced former BYU and Oregon State forward Payton Dastrup as the team’s next head coach on Sunday. Dastrup fills the void of Landon Cosby, who left for the Fremont opening after seven seasons.

The Mesa, Arizona, native has spent the past five years in Utah’s high school hoops scene, including three years as head coach at 4A Stansbury and another two as the sophomore coach at 5A Timpview. Dastrup went 21-49 in his three seasons as head coach of the Stallions.

“(Dastrup) is committed to giving his all to the Weber High program, school, and community and wants to thank the admin for giving him this opportunity to bring this program back to where it belongs among the top programs in the state,” the school said via Instagram.

Weber, which finished 7-17 this past winter, is coming off its first losing season in three years.

Westminster taps Layton Christian’s Casey Stanley as next head men’s coach

After three years at Layton Christian, Casey Stanley is stepping up to his first-ever head coaching gig in college basketball.

Westminster University (D-II) announced Monday that Stanley will replace Norm Parrish after four seasons leading the Griffins. Stanley finished 66-20, including a state title in 2024, in three seasons at LCA.

Stanley shared the following message with his community on Instagram:

“I’m incredibly grateful for my time at Layton Christian Academy,” Stanley said. “Over the past three years, this program became something truly special… We leave this program better than we found it, and I know it will continue to grow. I will always remain a part of it. As I step into the next challenge and the next stage of my professional career, Layton Christian will always mean a great deal to me and my family.”

Outside of Utah, Casey’s past assistant coaching stops include Arkansas State, Iona, North Carolina-Wilmington and Florida International.

Aldous commits to St. Clair for baseball

Ogden High’s Xavier Aldous is bound for St. Clair Community College in Port Huron, Michigan, the senior outfielder announced via social media earlier this month.

Aldous, who is fourth on the team with 11 hits in 19 games this season, has spent four years with the Tigers’ baseball program. The soon-to-be graduate shared the following message with his community on Instagram:

“I am pumped to announce my commitment to St. Clair County Community College to further my academic and athletic career. I am very thankful for everyone who has helped me along the way and have pushed me to do better. All of the hard work paid off.

Weber High names Winter as next XC coach

Weber High introduced Zach Winter as its next head cross country coach over the weekend via social media.

Winter, a Weber State alum and Fremont High graduate, is a former state qualifier in his prep days and takes over the Warriors’ program with nearly 15 years of experience in Utah’s running community.
