Prep roundup: West Field baseball claims Game 1 from Fremont; Ogden soccer undefeated again

PLAIN CITY — West Field High baseball took a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning and claimed the first game in a pivotal Region 5 series against Fremont with a 7-4 victory on Tuesday.

Grady Garrett hit a solo home run for West Field (13-4, 9-1 Region 5). Kason Taylor hit a two-run triple. Wyatt Penrod hit an RBI double. Luke Penland batted 3 for 3 and drove in two. Bryce Bagby got the win with six strikeouts while allowing eight hits.

Kasen Pearson batted 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI for Fremont (11-6, 8-2). Bodee Hawkins went 3 for 4 and drove in one. Adam Mikesell and Ashur Clark each hit an RBI single.

ROY 4, NORTHRIDGE 3

LAYTON — Roy scored one run in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to turn a 3-1 deficit into a region win at Northridge.

Kruz Williams hit a two-run home run for Roy (7-13, 3-10 Region 5). Lincoln Baty batted 2 for 4 with a triple. Cache Summers went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Jace Barela pitched six innings with seven hits and one strikeout in the win.

Mick Whitaker hit a triple and scored a run for Northridge (5-12, 4-6). Isaac Anderson batted 2 for 4. Elijah Ngo and Parker Jeppson each hit an RBI single.

LAYTON 11, SYRACUSE 1

LAYTON — Layton scored four runs in the fifth inning to trigger the run rule in a region win over Syracuse.

Zane Morgan batted 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for Layton (13-5, 6-1 Region 1). Nik Bielaczyc went 3 for 4 and scored two runs. Will Hoffman hit two singles and drove in four. Caleb Jackson hit an RBI double. Bielaczyc gave up two hits and struck out 10 in a five-inning complete game.

Crosby Albright hit an RBI double for Syracuse (1-16, 0-4). Connor Wilcox hit a double and scored the Titan run.

BOX ELDER 7, CLEARFIELD 4

CLEARFIELD — Box Elder scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning in a region win at Clearfield.

Grant Kohler batted 3 for 4 with a triple, a double, an RBI and two runs scored for Box Elder (6-11, 5-5 Region 5). Porter Francom went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Bryson Wight hit an RBI single. Maddox Earnest got the win with one hit and six strikeouts in four innings of relief.

Hank Campbell batted 3 for 5 and drove in one for Clearfield (10-10, 9-4). Ryan Frei added two singles. Christian Taylor and Traegan Bertagnolli each hit an RBI single.

LOGAN — Grant Aardema scored in the second half on a Jace Rodriguez assist to lift Ogden to a region win at Logan (5-8, 4-4 Region 12) and finish a regular season undefeated for the second consecutive season, running the Tigers’ win streak to 40 matches.

Xavier Peregrina kept the clean sheet for Ogden (13-0, 8-0).

BONNEVILLE 20, ROY 19

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walkoff win over Roy.

Ellee Summers and Samantha Mills each hit a home run, a double and a single, and combined for nine RBIs for Bonneville (3-9, 3-8 Region 5). Taylor Casey and Andie Elmer each hit a double, two singles and drove in one. Dani Elmer batted 1 for 2 with two walks, one hit-by-pitch and scored four runs. Bentley Hastings got the win in 3 2/3 innings of relief.

Roy (5-11, 4-7) did not report stats.

WEST FIELD 14, NORTHRIDGE 0

TAYLOR — Brinklee Hadley pitched a no-hitter with one walk, one hit batter and nine strikeouts in a five-inning win over Northridge.

Ellie Koford hit a triple, a double and drove in four for West Field (14-4, 8-0 Region 5). Alena Lynch hit a three-run triple. Kam Bell batted 3 for 3 with two RBIs and Claire Nessen added a double. Rylee Andreasen hit two singles and drove in two. The Longhorns scored six runs in the fourth inning to trigger the run rule.

Madisyn LeCour reached on a hit-by-pitch and Berklee Larsen took a base on balls for Northridge (3-11, 0-8).

BOX ELDER 5, CLEARFIELD 1

BRIGHAM CITY — Box Elder scored four runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead in a region win over Clearfield.

Kennadie Blackmer hit a solo home run and got the win by allowing three hits and striking out seven in three innings for Box Elder (20-3, 8-1 Region 5). Izabel Mason batted 3 for 4. Quincey Lish went 2 for 4 and drove in one. Maclee Willard hit a double. Kailee Hall and Olivia Daniels each hit an RBI single.

Skylar Davis batted 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Clearfield (13-5, 4-4). Lyla Leonhardt hit a double and scored the Falcons’ only run.

FREMONT 15, WEBER 5

PLAIN CITY — Fremont scored nine runs in the fourth inning to beat Weber in five innings Monday.

Cara Henrie and Olivia Broadbent each hit two doubles and combined for three RBIs for Fremont (9-12). Brooklyn Himelright batted 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Ashlynn Cottle batted 2 for 3 with a double and drove in two. Chloe Clark hit a double and a single. Abigail Valdez hit an RBI double. Adelaide Johnsen pitched all five innings with seven hits and seven strikeouts.

Emery Hayes and Raegan Blaisdell each batted 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI for Weber (4-12). Peyton Barker hit a two-run double.
