Prep basketball roundup: Syracuse boys stun Davis to create Region 1 share; Roy wins late for outright title
Fremont girls complete undefeated region campaign

A basketball rests on the court at Roy High School on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026.KAYSVILLE — Skyler Orton’s efficient 25-point night and Syracuse’s defense stunned Davis in a 66-42 result Friday night that created a share of the Region 1 title between Layton and Davis on the final day of the regular season.
Orton shot 10 of 15 from the field and 3 of 3 from distance for Syracuse (13-9, 5-3 Region 1). Colton Hoenigman added 20 points and Carter Robinson totaled 13 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. The Titans shot 25 of 41 (61%) from the field.
Davis (15-8, 6-2) shot 13 of 44 (29.5%) overall and 2 of 20 from the 3-point line. Bode Sparrow led the Darts with 15 points and three steals, and Cameron Brower added 10 points.
ROY 57, BOX ELDER 56
ROY — Jake Hamblin hit a layup with 14 seconds left for the game-winner and Roy’s only lead as the Royals escaped with a win over Box Elder to claim the Region 5 title outright.
Boston Greenhalgh scored a game-high 26 points with two 3-pointers and three steals for Roy (18-5, 10-2 Region 5), going 10 of 10 at the foul line. Jesse Jones added 13 points and nine rebounds. Rock Speredon tallied nine points and 11 rebounds, and assisted Hamblin’s winner.
Gunnar Gunderson led Box Elder (11-12, 6-6) with 15 points on five 3-pointers. Jantzen Vranes added 11 points and six rebounds. Krew Peterson and Ryan Jenson each scored nine points and one trey.
LAYTON CHRISTIAN 74, LAYTON 65
LAYTON — Layton Christian built a 57-43 lead after three quarters in a nonregion win over Layton.
Roman Avdejev led Layton Christian (21-6) with 16 points. Omar Mowafak and Osaigbovo Aguebor each added 14 points.
Chase Randall led all scorers with 26 points and four 3-pointers for Layton (16-8). Karter Miller tallied 19 points with two treys and Nic Anderson scored 11 points with three triples.
MORGAN 89, BEN LOMOND 46
MORGAN — No. 1 Morgan ran out to a 47-29 halftime lead in a win over No. 16 Ben Lomond (2-22) in the 3A first round.
Bracken Saunders led all scorers with 26 points and two 3-pointers for Morgan (21-3). Mason Williams tallied 20 points, Jake Hansen added 13 points and Brighton Wimpy scored 11 points with three treys.
The Trojans advance to face No. 8 Canyon View (12-12) in the quarterfinals, scheduled for 11:10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Southern Utah University.
Taggart Bush led Ben Lomond with 19 points. Cole Parkinson netted eight points.
FREMONT 69, CLEARFIELD 50
PLAIN CITY — Jack Galvan scored 30 points and Clearfield led 17-12 after the first quarter, but Fremont outscored the Falcons 57-33 the rest of the way in a region win.
Zach Hancock led Fremont (9-14, 7-5 Region 5) with 25 points. Cam Campbell scored 14 points with two 3-pointers and Easton Hansen added 12 points and two treys.
Alyric Kelley added 11 points for Clearfield (9-14, 6-6)
PRESTON-ID 56, WEST FIELD 34
PRESTON, Idaho — West Field went into halftime tied 20-20 but lost touch in the second half in a loss at Preston (Idaho).
Daxton Laughter led all scorers with 13 points for West Field (14-9). Cason Malan added 10 points.

PLAIN CITY — Fremont (20-3, 12-0 Region 5) held off Clearfield (15-8, 10-2) to complete an undefeated run in Region 5.

BOX ELDER 46, ROY 43 (OT)
ROY — Marley Barber capped a top performance by hitting a game-winning 3-pointer with seven seconds left in overtime to send Box Elder to a region win at Roy.
Barber led all scorers with 13 points on three treys and six rebounds for Box Elder (9-14, 4-8 Region 5). Halli Wright tallied 11 points. McKenzee Jeffries had eight points and eight rebounds while Brielle Yates added seven points and 12 boards.
Eva Reed paced Roy (0-22, 0-12) with 12 points and four steals. Lily Solomona had 11 points and eight rebounds. Quincy Hoover scored nine points.
