St. Joseph athletic director Cindy White informed the Standard-Examiner on Saturday that Carpenter no longer holds his role as head coach of the boys team. The decision of assigning an interim coach will be made before the end of the season, White said.
The UHSAA released brackets for the 1A boys and girls basketball tournaments on Monday morning.
On the boys side, the Jayhawks, the No. 17 seed out of Ogden, travel five-plus hours to No. 16 Escalante (7-14) on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. tipoff. St. Joseph (7-16) dropped 11 consecutive games between December and February, and finished the regular season winning two of its last five.
Also packing their bags, St. Joseph’s girls squad will take on No. 15 Bryce Valley (5-17) as the No. 18 seed in the opening round Wednesday, also with a 7 p.m. tipoff. The Jayhawks (4-18) snapped a nine-game losing streak 35-32 vs. Altamont on Jan. 30.
All first- and second-round games are held at home sites; subsequent rounds are held Feb. 26-28 at Salt Lake Community College in Taylorsville.
