Prep basketball roundup: Several Northern Utah teams bow out of playoffs
Five Northern Utah high school basketball teams saw their seasons come to a close with playoff losses Thursday. Below is a roundup from the night’s action.
BOYS BASKETBALL
VIEWMONT 69, WEST FIELD 61
TAYLOR — No. 19 Viewmont (11-14) broke a halftime tie with a 22-14 third quarter and went on to upset No. 14 West Field in the first round of the 5A playoffs.
Jaden Fowers led West Field with 19 points. Daxton Laughter tallied 15 points while Jaxxon Gerace and Drew Faddis each scored seven points. The Longhorns finish the season with a 15-9 record.
SALEM HILLS 67, BOX ELDER 58 (OT)
SALEM — No. 20 Box Elder won the fourth quarter 23-11 to force bonus basketball, but No. 13 Salem Hills (14-10) closed overtime shooting 12 of 14 from the foul line in a 5A first-round playoff contest.
Krew Peterson and Ryan Jenson each scored 11 points for Box Elder. Gunnar Gunderson added 10 points with two 3-pointers. The Bees finish the year 11-13.
PLEASANT GROVE 58, FREMONT 42
PLEASANT GROVE — No. 21 Fremont trailed 23-11 at the half in a 5A first-round loss at No. 12 Pleasant Grove (12-12).
Zach Hancock led all scorers with 20 points and two 3-pointers for Fremont. Cam Campbell scored nine points and Easton Hansen scored seven. The Silverwolves end the season with a 9-15 record.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
BRYCE VALLEY 47, ST. JOSEPH 23
TROPIC — No. 18 St. Joseph fell behind 14-2 after one quarter in a 1A first-round loss at No. 15 Bryce Valley (6-17).
Sophia Evans led St. Joseph with 13 points. Sophie Yates and Eliza Berg each scored four points. The Jayhawks finish the season with a 4-19 record.
