PLAIN CITY — Fremont High girls basketball is heading back to The U.
Three Silverwolves scored in double digits for a 65-23 home win over No. 20 Spanish Fork in the second round of the 5A state tournament Thursday night.
No. 4 Fremont will meet No. 5 Alta in the quarterfinals Monday night at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
Junior guard Brynn Wadman broke loose with 16 points, including a game-high four triples, for Fremont (21-3) against a Spanish Fork (9-16) team that hung a 13-point win on No. 13 Granger just two days earlier to advance.
Wadman contributed a 3-point basket to Fremont’s first-quarter onslaught. Down 19-3 through the opening frame, the Dons hardly provided an answer for junior forward Abigail Christensen (11 points) or freshman guard Ellie McArthur, combining for 18 points before halftime.

Something unlocked for Wadman in the second half, the junior said.
“I’ve been off for a while; it felt nice,” Wadman said. “When there’s a lot of energy on the bench, it lifts me up, lets me know when I miss, it’s not the end of the world.”
Lexie Branch’s 12 points couldn’t lead an answer for Spanish Fork as a 31-point deficit at halftime blossomed to 44 through the end of the third quarter. Rexi Rozema added eight more points for the Dons and Bella Cox chipped in two.
Fremont junior guard Mia McArthur and senior center Maya Jensen kept the night rolling with seven points apiece. Daphnie Moyes added five points, Lily Hall tallied four, and Jersie Slater and Mia Smith each netted two before the final buzzer.
Fueled by several rim weapons, Fremont’s heading into the quarterfinals averaging 63.2 points per night, nearly double the total in the final game one year ago: it was a 72-38 loss to Bingham that sent Lisa Dalebout and the Silverwolves packing at last year’s 6A tournament.

Much of Fremont’s current roster remembers that weekend vividly, and Wadman, a third-year member of the basketball program, said it’ll take everyone to write their own ending.
“We can’t do it without each other,” Wadman said. “They keep us all together. They’re our biggest component to winning.”
Alta, defeating No. 21 Skyline 62-36 on Thursday evening, will meet Fremont at the Huntsman Center for a 9:10 p.m. nightcap on Monday.
