Weber High’s Josh Hamblin sets hurdles record at Simplot Games 2026
Several Northern Utah athletes medal at prestigious indoor meet

Hamblin set the Simplot Games meet record in the 60-meter boys hurdles in Saturday’s finals, running 7.65 seconds.
The Simplot Games touts itself as the nation’s premier indoor high school track meet. This year’s event, held Feb. 19-21, was the 46th annual meet. More than 2,100 athletes from 19 states, Canada and Australia participated at Idaho State’s ICCU Dome.
Hamblin broke his own meet record, which he set at 7.73 in Thursday’s preliminary heats. The senior is a seven-time Utah state champion in outdoor track and holds the state’s all-classifications record for the 110-meter hurdles at 13.80.
Three more Northern Utah athletes won events at Simplot:
• Davis High junior Johnny Parker won the boys weight throw at 75-0.
• Syracuse junior Jace Cook claimed the medal in the boys shot put with a throw of 62-7.5. Parker finished fourth.
• Jackson Spencer of Syracuse won the boys 3,200-meter race at 8:50.50.
Several others had top-five finishes, including:
• Kaylan Anderson, Box Elder (fifth, girls 200)
• Avery Barton, Ogden (third, girls 1600)
• Isabella Cram, Davis (third, girls 3200)
• Jeff Hazard, Layton (fifth, boys 3200)
• Ava Wyatt, Layton (fifth, girls 60 hurdles)
