Morgan's Amy Thomas (5) and Ogden's Isabella Gray (10) battle for possession during the 3A state championship versus Ogden on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.

Former Ogden High soccer star Bella Gray is bringing her career back home.

Gray officially signed with Utah Tech over the weekend after entering the transfer portal following her freshman season at Ole Miss. Gray is the ninth signee of the 2026 class and the second Northern Utahn alongside Syracuse senior Taylee Hughes.

The former Tiger had been on Utah Tech head coach Lexi Brown’s radar for a while. The Utah Valley alum and former Gonzaga staffer praised Gray’s resume and mentioned her prior recruitment in a release last Friday.

“Being from Utah, we’ve had the chance to watch her develop over the years,” Brown said of Gray

“She’s had the chance to compete at a high level internationally and in her college career and will be well prepared to help us pursue a Big Sky Championship. Her technical and tactical ability will contribute well in our style and system, and we know that her character will fit perfectly into our culture. We can’t wait to see what she’ll accomplish here.”

At Ogden, Gray experienced two 3A state titles under former coach Ryan Robinson, and, despite a lingering hip injury, helped the Tigers reach the championship match again as a senior in 2024 under current coach Alexis King.

Gray signed with Ole Miss out of high school and produced 275-plus minutes in 11 different matches as a freshman midfielder for the Rebels. She recorded six total shots, including four on goal, during her lone season in Oxford.

Gray returns to Utah with three years of eligibility.

Former All-Area MVP signs with Weber State volleyball

Syracuse alum and St. Mary’s setter Hailee Garcia, the Standard-Examiner All-Area Girls Volleyball MVP in 2021, officially signed with Weber State over the weekend.

Portaling home from California, Garcia brings 1,101 career assists, 280 sets, 74 aces and 34 kills from her three seasons with the Gaels. She set the school’s fourth-most aces record in five sets (5) against Arkansas in 2024.

Garcia played alongside current Titans coach Megan Allred for three seasons in high school and another at St. Mary’s in 2022. Garcia (45 aces) and Allred (39) were the Titans’ No. 2 and No. 3 ace leaders during their final prep season in 2020.

WSU introduced Garcia alongside three more signees: Taliah Lee (Holy Cross), Provo, Utah; Klaresa Sivas (Edinboro), Hilo, Hawaii; and Hailey Spencer (Utah State), San Diego.

Michigan, Texas offer Davis star Sparrow

Davis High two-way star Bode Sparrow has picked up his 23rd and 24th Power Four offers from two big names, Michigan and Texas.

While it’s no surprise given that Whittingham, who offered Sparrow at Utah before his resignation and subsequent move to Michigan in late December, it’s certainly been a big recruiting weekend for the 6-foot-2, 190-pound talent.

Sparrow was named the Region 1 MVP with 1,218 total yards, 16 touchdowns, 71 tackles (35 solo), seven interceptions and 6.5 tackles for loss as a junior.

Sparrow was a 2025 Standard-Examiner All-Area First Team honoree.
