Girls basketball: Davis goes wire to wire in region win at Farmington

Davis High girls basketball head coach Nicole Waddoups, top, leads a timeout during a game Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, in Farmington.FARMINGTON — Davis power forward Kate Willard did what Kate Willard does, but on Tuesday against Farmington, she had a heap of hoops from her friends.
The 5-foot-11 junior netted a game-high 17 points for the Darts, while teammates Cambell Christensen and Emma Knight both came off the bench in an impressive supporting role.
A junior forward, Christensen scored 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and 2 of 4 from the free-throw line; Knight had nine points with two treys and 1-of-1 from the charity stripe.
Davis went on the road and led wire to wire, frustrating Farmington 56-36 in a Region 1 rivalry drubbing.
“Stats show I’m the leading scorer, but it doesn’t necessarily feel that it all comes down to me,” Willard said. “At the end of the day, I have the most points but we move the ball really well and our points are evenly spread.
“We have to have a lot of energy off the bench. We try our best to not let down with our subs and keep our lead at the same level or increase,” Willard said. “Our bench did that today; they did awesome.”
Led by Christensen and Knight, the subs showed their stuff in the second half after Davis (9-6, 2-0 Region 1) led 22-16 at the break.
Christensen scored eight points over the last three minutes of the third quarter, including both of her 3-pointers, the second giving the Darts a 42-25 lead after three.
“I wanted to play for the team. I got open looks and took the shots,” Christensen said. “It’s just practice; we put a lot of work in, so when it’s game time it comes easy.”
Knight, a freshman, splashed home two 3s in the third quarter and Davis nearly doubled its first-half output with 20 points in the period.
“It’s been a good experience for me; going from junior high to high school is a big step, but my team helps me feel more confident when I’m playing,” Knight said. “My team got me those open looks … passed the ball, got the rebound and got it down the court fast enough to help me get those shots up.
“When I come off the bench, they tell me to play my hardest; play as a team and have fun,” Knight said.
In a big region rivalry, Willard scored the first two baskets of the game and had 10 of her 17 points in the first half, jump-starting a dominant Davis performance. She had two buckets from beyond the arc and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line on Tuesday.
“I think the movement that our team created got me open; we all have to be confident in our shot and be ready. I was ready to shoot,” Willard said. “It’s our second region game; we work really hard. Farmington is one of our rivals and we had a lot of fire.”
Christensen said the halftime talk set things in motion for the Darts in the final two quarters.
“We wanted this game so bad. We looked around the room and said, ‘Don’t play for ourselves, but each other,'” Christensen said. “We wanted to play like Davis plays.”
Knight, meanwhile, will have several more opportunities against the Phoenix (9-5, 0-1), including a return date in Kaysville later this season.
“It’s really fun when you get to play these types of games and have that intensity,” Knight said.
