OUTLOOK

Sky’s the limit for Ben Lomond in Year 2 of Ty Smith’s rebuild, and that includes a familiar face in former head coach Lyndon Johnson, who led the program to its last winning record in 2023 before resigning a year later to become the school’s head boys basketball coach. But Johnson seemingly couldn’t resist another crack at the gridiron, so he’s back coaching defense for Smith this go-around as eight returning starters hope to steer the Scots forward after two winless seasons in 3A. Kale Ha’o is the key name back to lead the defense, and Dashawn Gordon represents another contributor from last year’s campaign who’ll lead the charge out of the backfield. Program participation is trending upward this summer, and BL should have fresh bodies to work with this fall as it pieces together a game-ready roster.
