HERRIMAN — Yep, those Ogden High boys are going for thirds.
The No. 1 Tigers will contend for a third consecutive boys soccer state title after besting region foe and No. 5 seed Logan 2-1 in the 3A semifinals Monday at Zions Bank Stadium.
One win away from a second consecutive perfect season, Ogden (15-0) will greet No. 3 Morgan for an all-too-familiar matchup either way in this year’s final. That’s set for 2 p.m. Monday, May 11, back at ZBS. Last year, the Tigers defeated the Trojans 2-1 for a fourth title.
Jase Pingree handed the Grizzlies (10-6) a short-lived, 1-0 lead in the opening minutes of Monday’s semifinal contest
But Zeke Snow, now up to 17 goals on the season, arrived with his own agenda. Ogden’s sophomore star put two goals in the back of the net before halftime, and the Tigers followed it with their stout brand of second-half defense.
Tigers goalkeeper Xavier Peregrina bought his senior season one more match with two key saves down the stretch. With a veteran Peregrina tending the net, Ogden has trailed at the half just once this season.
“I can’t believe it, honestly,” Peregrina said. “Most people would be sad, it’s their last year, but it’s exciting, and I’m just happy that my boys and I get to finish it out because we have 14 seniors, and these are all my brothers.”
Peregrina denied Miles McNaulty twice in the second half, and Logan’s chances became like gold following the Ogden keeper’s second save with 22 minutes to go.
Fellow senior Jace Rodriguez looked destined to get on the scoreboard with several near-misses over the course of the match, including a flagged one-on-one with Logan goalkeeper Eli Steele called offside with 12 minutes left and the Tigers still leading by just one goal.
On the back end, though, Ogden leaned on one of its hungriest defenders, Grant Aardema, to chalk up another physical postseason victory against one of their toughest region opponents. Each of Ogden’s previous two wins over Logan came down to a single goal.
Both Aardema and Rodriguez came up with assists for Snow in the first half.
“He’s a beast,” Peregrina said of Aaredma. “That guy’s a workhorse. You’ll never see him not doing something or not moving, and if he isn’t moving, he’s talking to our guys. A guy could be twice his size, and he’s up for the challenge. He’s excited for it.”
Logan is the first program to place a goal against Peregrina so far this postseason, and next week’s title match is easily the biggest of his Ogden career.
With Monday’s win, the Tigers have won 42 consecutive matches since 2024, the second-longest streak by a Utah prep boys program, and will enjoy a full week’s rest before trying their hand at history.
