Davis High's Rosalie Hartley rounds the bases during a Region 1 softball game against Syracuse on Friday, April 10, 2026, in Syracuse.

TAYLORSVILLE — Davis High softball challenged No. 1 seed Riverton but the No. 5 Darts couldn’t push across enough runs in a 7-4 defeat as the sun set Tuesday night in a 5A winner’s bracket game at Valley Complex in Taylorsville.

Norah Sunderland hit a solo shot in the first and a two-run homer in the third inning to put Davis (25-7) up 3-0 on the powerhouse Silverwolves (26-3).

After Serena Roth threw 11 innings in the opener, Cambell Christensen got the start held Riverton off until the bottom of the third when Londyn Rentmeister hit a three-run shot to put Riverton up 4-3.

Roth homered in the top of the seventh to make it 7-4 and Riverton intentionally walked Sunderland to take their chances elsewhere, eventually getting Riley Jaques to ground out and Christensen to fly out to end the game.

Aside from Sunderland’s two homers, Christensen batted 2 for 4 and outfielder Chloe Peery was 2 for 3.

The loss drops Davis to an elimination game set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, facing No. 8 Bingham (16-13) for a chance to play Riverton again, deciding who advances to the championship series.

DAVIS 4, COPPER HILLS 3 (11)

TAYLORSVILLE — No. 5 Davis won an extra-innings game of cat and mouse with No. 4 Copper Hills (21-7) when Norah Sunderland doubled in the top of the 11th to score Jewel Korth and get the Darts a victory in their opening game of 6A double-elimination bracket play at Valley Complex on Tuesday evening.

Davis got the zero it needed in the bottom of the 11th. After Copper Hills bunted its tiebreaker runner to third, Serena Roth got a groundout to first and a popout to Korth at shortstop to end the marathon.

Roth allowed zero earned runs on three hits while pitching all 11 innings, striking out 14 and walking four in 162 pitches. Kennedy Jennings also went all 11 for Copper Hills, striking out 16 and walking zero while allowing six hits and one earned run.

Roth homered in the first inning for Davis and the Darts wouldn’t score again until the eighth when tiebreaker runner Elli Trinnaman scored on an error. CH answered in the bottom half with an RBI groundout, Davis again scored on an error in the ninth and the Grizzlies answered with a sacrifice fly to keep the game going.

Starting at $4.32/week.
