No. 4 West Field run-ruled No. 21 Skyline 14-4 to cap the action Monday at Utah Valley University, setting the Longhorns (24-4) up for a straighter shot at the championship series this weekend.
Skyline, who upset No. 5 Cyprus to reach the final eight, was no match for a West Field team averaging 12.7 runs per game during the 21-game streak.
An RBI triple had Bryce Bagby down 2-0 before his team came to bat, but Bagby quickly righted the ship. The senior pitcher allowed two earned runs on four hits, striking out four and walking three in the five-inning victory. West Field has yet to use a relief pitcher in three playoff games.
The Longhorns knotted things up in the second on an Andrew Hurst RBI single, then went up 6-2 in the third on a sacrifice fly, a balk, an RBI single from Kason Taylor, and a Luke Penland bases-loaded walk.
Tyke Johnson capped his 3-for-3, four-RBI day with a two-run double in the fifth to help wrap up a five-run inning and the run-rule stoppage.
Wyatt Penrod hit 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored from the leadoff spot. Taylor also finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
West Field next draws the hottest team in Utah baseball. No. 1 Spanish Fork blanked No. 9 Payson 5-0 on Monday. The Dons are 35-4 going back to the 2025 regular-season finale, winning 10 of their last 11 to win the 2025 state championship as the No. 20 seed, then posting a 25-3 record so far this season.
That game was scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at UVU.
FREMONT 11, WEST JORDAN 8
OREM — In a game where 18 of the 19 runs were scored in the fourth and fifth innings, it was a six-run fifth and reliever Kasen Pearson shutting off the runs that got No. 7 Fremont past No. 6 West Jordan (20-9) to survive a 5A elimination game Tuesday morning at UVU.
Adam Mikesell hit 3 for 4 with three RBIs for Fremont (20-9), bookending the scoring for the Silverwolves with a solo homer in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth.
Ashur Clark, Landon Palmer, Hunter Maycock and Bodee Hawkins each followed Mikesell’s homer with RBI singles to put Fremont up 5-1 in the fourth. West Jordan erased that in the bottom half, tying it 5-5.
A Palmer two-run double and an RBI double from Tad Grange, the latter who pitched five innings for the win, keyed a six-run fifth to lead the Silverwolves to victory. Pearson struck out two and allowed two hits in two scoreless frames.
Fremont moves on to face the loser of a Tuesday evening game between Maple Mountain and Pleasant Grove. That elimination game is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday. The winner plays again at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
