Region 5 cross country: Northridge duo wins medals, Fremont sweeps team titles
CONNER BECKER, Standard-Examiner
Runners take off during the 1A state cross country championships on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City.A pair of Northridge High runners won in dominant fashion but it was Fremont taking both team titles at the Region 5 cross country championship races held Friday at the Weber County Fairgrounds.
In the girls race, Northridge junior Evelyn Cook won by 25 seconds, finishing in a time of 19:26.75 in the 5K race. Box Elder’s Brynlee Cragun was next across the line at 19:51.83.
The team race boiled down to one point as each of Fremont and Northridge had three top-1o finishes. The Knights had runners finish first, third and 10th, while the Silverwolves had runners in fourth, fifth and seventh (seventh was freshman Emery Hancey).
But an 11th-place finish from sophomore Harriet Poulson (21:32.27) was key for Fremont in edging Northridge for the team championship.
In the boys 5K, it was Northridge senior Jeff Hazard running away with things, posting a 29-second win with a time of 15:26.37.
West Field’s Daxton Coombs was the second finisher at 15:55.92.
The boys team race was not nearly as dramatic compared to the girls. Fremont placed six runners in the top 10, creating a 54-point gap over second-place West Field.
