Prep football roundup: Syracuse tops Farmington in overtime; Weber wins by 1

(ISAAC FISHER, Special to the Standard-Examiner)FARMINGTON — After Ledger Wight tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jack Benoit in overtime to give Syracuse High football a 22-16 lead, Caleb Brown intercepted Farmington quarterback Alton Dahl to seal the Titan win on Thursday night.
Syracuse (5-4, 3-1 Region 1) drove the length of the field on its first possession, but Farmington (3-6, 1-2) used a goal-line stand to get the ball at the 2-yard line. Two downs later, the Titans swarmed Dahl in the end zone for a safety and a 2-0 lead.
Carson Lake tossed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Kao Prom for a 9-3 lead early in the second quarter. Farmington’s Owen Morris made a 28-yard field goal for a 9-6 score at the half, and another Morris field goal from 25 yards tied the game with 19 seconds left in the third quarter.
Dahl found Benson Rogers for a 64-yard scoring strike and the only Phoenix lead of the day at 16-9 with 8:19 left.
Ledger Wight tossed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Parker Moffat for a 16-16 tie with 6:56 remaining. Morris missed a game-winning field goal attempt from 45 yards as time expired, forcing overtime.
Syracuse finishes 3-1 and a sure second place in Region 1. The win keeps open the chance at a share of the title; Davis plays at Weber next week looking to win the region outright.
WEBER 28, RIVERTON 27
PLEASANT VIEW — Weber stopped a two-point conversion and one last drive in the final three minutes to hang on to a nonregion win over Riverton (2-7).
Carter Payne threw three touchdowns and ran in the go-ahead score for Weber (5-4). He completed a 17-yard touchdown to Reese Cantwell in the first quarter, and scores of 26 yards to Creed DeVries and 21 yards to Draycen Munoz in the second quarter.
Payne rushed in a 9-yard touchdown to go up 28-21. Riverton finished a touchdown drive with 2:36 left but Weber denied the two-point attempt, and Zach Howell grabbed an interception to stop the visitors for good.
BOX ELDER 49, CLEARFIELD 0
CLEARFIELD — Box Elder scored three passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns and one defensive score in a mercy-rule blanking of Clearfield (2-7, 0-5 Region 5).
Ricki Jones opened the scoring on a 4-yard run, giving Box Elder (8-1, 5-0) an 8-0 lead. Cole Bushnell broke off a 36-yard run and the Bees led 15-0 after one quarter. Kadyn Reyes tossed a 4-yard scoring strike to Bridger Richards.
Judd Howells scored on an 8-yard run, then Josh Pugsley took a pass from Mack Davis 20 yards for a score to give Box Elder a 35-0 lead at the half. Cooper Gunderson turned a Reyes pass into a 35-yard touchdown early in the third quarter, and Jordan Hansen returned an interception 29 yards late in the third quarter for the final margin.
NORTHRIDGE 28, BONNEVILLE 0
WASHINGTON TERRACE — Northridge returned two interceptions for touchdowns in a shutout win at Bonneville (2-7, 1-5 Region 5).
Destin Smith got Northridge (3-6, 1-4) on the board on a 32-yard interception return with 11:03 left in the first quarter, and the Knights led 7-0 at the half. Ryker Miller took an interception 72 yards to the house midway through the third quarter.
Boston Wright connected with Zander Kap for a 30-yard touchdown, then Carson Murphy scored on a 2-yard plunge with 8:50 left in the game.
BEAR RIVER 48, DESERET PEAK 20
TOOELE — Bear River scored 48 consecutive points after going down 7-0 in a region road win.
Rigdon Vonk scored two touchdowns on 3-yard runs for Bear River (6-3, 4-2 Region 11). Preston Wilkinson passed for two scores, on a 63-yard catch-and-run by Glaiden Behrens and a 29-yard pass to Eli Braegger. Behrens scored again on a 59-yard interception return.
Bennett Allen scored on a 2-yard dive and Jack Christensen scored on a 6-yard scamper.
Deseret Peak (0-9, 0-6) scored on a 2-yard pass, a 3-yard run and a fumble recovery in the end zone.
LAYTON CHRISTIAN 13, MAPLE MTN 10
SPANISH FORK — Lasse Frohlich kicked the game-winning field goal with 5:56 left and Layton Christian escaped with a win at Maple Mountain.
Chris Munroe opened the scoring on a 14-yard run with 7:12 left in the second quarter and Layton Christian (8-1) led 7-0 at the half. Maple Mountain tied the game midway through the third quarter on a 68-yard touchdown pass.
The Eagles drove deep into Maple Mountain territory, setting up Frohlich’s game-winner. Maple Mountain threatened to score, but two consecutive sacks gave the ball back to LCA on a turnover on downs with 26 seconds left in the game.
UNION 40, BEN LOMOND 7
OGDEN — Dashawn Gordon scored an 8-yard rushing touchdown with 11:39 left on a running clock and Ben Lomond fell at home to Union.
Union (3-5, 1-3 3A North) scored five rushing touchdowns to take a 33-0 halftime lead, then added one more score on the ground in the third quarter.
Ben Lomond (1-8, 0-4) responded with its best drive of the night, setting up Gordon’s scamper around the right side.

OGDEN –Ben Lomond swept Utah Military-Hill Field on Wednesday by scores of 25-11, 25-3, 25-12.
Maddie Sparks led Ben Lomond (2-19) with nine kills and three aces. Zoe Yates tallied seven kills while Angie Collatz added three kills and eight aces.
Utah Military-Hill Field (0-18) did not report stats.
