Ogden Raptors lose touch again in blowout loss at Northern Colorado

By Brett Hein - Standard-Examiner | Sep 6, 2022

For the third time in the last four games, Ogden Raptors pitchers lost touch in one huge inning and the visitors were blown out 15-4 on Tuesday at Northern Colorado.

With the game tied 2-2, Ogden starter Ronny Orta couldn’t get himself out of the third inning when the Owlz (35-54, 18-26) turned six hits and an error into five runs to go up 7-2.

Alberto Gonzalez got the Raptors (49-43, 20-24) to the sixth inning trailing 8-4 after Freddy Achecar hit a solo homer in the top half of the frame. But Adam Scoggins took the hill for Ogden and had a disastrous outing, walking four straight batters, surrendering a grand slam to Brandon Crosby, then walking one more before being pulled. He was charged with six earned runs while recording no outs.

Brandon McCabe couldn’t get out of the sixth either, giving up two more of his own runs to put the home team up 15-4 after an eight-run inning.

Dustyn Macaluso batted 4 for 4 to lead Ogden, socking a solo home run in the fourth.

The two teams play again at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday.
