Henderson homers, Raptors answer Vibes surge to claim 9-6 victory Thursday
Damian Henderson homered in early innings to help Ogden answer a Rocky Mountain surge Thursday night and the Raptors went on to win 9-6 to avoid a road sweep against the Vibes.
Ogden next moves on to a three-game road set in Grand Junction beginning Friday.
(Previous stories incorrectly stated the number of games in the series against the Vibes. The Standard-Examiner regrets the errors.)
Jacob Barfield hit two solo homers for Rocky Mountain (30-32, 10-5), including one in the second that, along with a Dusty Stroup RBI double, put the Vibes up 3-1 early.
Ogden (37-26, 6-9) answered in the fourth inning when Sal Gozzo beat out a double play to push across a run, then scored when Henderson socked his home run to get the Raptors a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Dane Tofteland singled in a run in the fifth and Nick Ultsch singled in Gozzo and Henderson in the seventh for a 9-3 lead.
After Barfield homered again in the seventh, the Vibes patiently worked on Ogden reliever Brandon McCabe, who issued four walks between getting two outs to push across a run and make it 9-5. Dan Kubiuk took over and struck out Barfield to leave the bases loaded and the rally wanting.
The Raptors did the same in the top of the ninth looking to add to the lead, loading the bases with one out but failing to score when Dakota Conners was thrown out at the plate and Reese Alexiades struck out.
Rocky Mountain threatened again in the bottom of the ninth but scored once and Ogden held for the win.
