Raptors drop series in 7-6 Knockout loss at Northern Colorado

For the second consecutive night, the Ogden Raptors and Northern Colorado Owlz tied after nine innings and sent the final game of their series into the Knockout Round.

Danny Perez won the Knockout derby for the Owlz, per the team’s Twitter account, giving Northern Colorado a 7-6 victory and the series win. No other scoring info for Knockout is available.

The two teams take Thursday to travel and play another three games in Ogden from Friday through Sunday.

Ogden is now 1-4 in Knockout Round decisions this season.

The Raptors (42-33, 11-16) got on the board in the third with a Nick Ultsch RBI double but the Owlz (37-37, 14-13) led 4-1 after three when a fielder’s choice and an error plated two NoCo runs in the bottom of the third, which ended the ledger for Ogden starter Jake Mulholland.

Ogden tied it 4-4 in the fourth thanks to an RBI double from Coleton Horner and another run hit in by Ultsch, then went up 5-4 in the sixth on a Landen Barns sacrifice fly.

Northern Colorado answered in the bottom of the sixth and regained the lead when Payton Robertson hit a two-run homer off Chase Stratton to make it 6-5.

Juan Teixeira provided Ogden’s answer with a solo homer in the seventh to knot it 6-6.

Quinn Waterhouse, Foster Pace and Dan Kubiuk combined for three scoreless innings to close it for the Raptors, allowing two combined hits. Kubiuk recorded three strikeouts in the ninth.
