There’s a silver lining to the slew of injuries to beset the Ogden Raptors recently.

After shortstop Sal Gozzo was lost for the season to injury, sluggers Dane Tofteland and Damian Henderson have both hit the 10-day injured list, as has starting pitcher Mitchell Stone.

One reinforcement: the one and only Josh Broughton, the speedy right fielder with a big arm who starred for the Raptors in 180 games between 2021 and 2022. Broughton was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates organization after the 2022 season but was cut this spring without seeing any minor league action.

Broughton played 35 games for two Frontier League teams this summer, most recently hitting .426 for Tri-City.

Broughton scored two runs and drove in one Friday, rejoined Reese Alexiades in the outfield, and the Ogden Raptors defeated the Northern Colorado Owlz 10-8.

Alexiades pulled back into a tie for the Pioneer League lead in home runs with his 23rd of the season, a three-run blast in the sixth inning to put Ogden ahead 9-7.

Juan Teixeira hit a solo homer in the second inning and doubled in Alexiades in the third to get Ogden (43-33, 12-16) going early.

Abdel Guadalupe homered twice for Northern Colorado (37-38, 14-14). His two-run blast in the fifth had the Owlz ahead 4-2. He hit a solo shot off Dan Kubiuk in the ninth inning but Kubiuk otherwise increased his league lead in saves with his 15th.

The Raptors drew an impressive 5,022 fans to Lindquist Field to see the win on the same night Roy played a football rivalry at Fremont and Ogden, Ben Lomond and Bonneville high schools all also hosted football games.

Ogden and Northern Colorado conclude the series Saturday and Sunday at Lindquist Field.
