Ogden Raptors shellacked 13-3 at Missoula

By Brett Hein - Standard-Examiner | Jul 20, 2023

After two consecutive games in Missoula that ended nine innings in a tie that resulted in two Knockout Round derbies, Thursday night was much less dramatic between the Pioneer Baseball League’s first-half division winners.

The Missoula Paddleheads pulled away late and held the Ogden Raptors scoreless through seven innings on the way to a 13-3 victory at Ogren Park at Allegiance Field.

Keaton Greenwalt hit a two-run homer in the first inning for the home team off Ogden starter Jake Mulholland. Neither team scored again until the fifth when the PaddleHeads knocked Mulholland out of the game, pushing the score to 5-0. Missoula totaled 12 hits and four earned runs in 4 2/3 innings against Mulholland.

Marshall Shill and Jon Rice didn’t fare any better. Cameron Thompson hit a homer in the eighth and the two Ogden pitchers surrendered eight earned runs on nine hits over the final 2 1/3 innings. Rice issued four walks during the eighth inning.

Dawson Day threw six shutout innings for Missoula (38-13, 3-0), allowing four hits and striking out five, to pick up the win.

The Raptors (31-20, 0-3) got on the scoreboard in the eighth when Logan Williams drove in a run on a double and Dane Tofteland pushed across Cam Phelts on a groundout.

Landen Barns added one more run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly, scoring Sal Gozzo.

Missoula has won all three games this series, though it outhit Ogden for the first time Thursday and did so convincingly in a 21-8 tally.

The series continues Friday through Sunday.
