Ogden Raptors bash Boise early to take road series in 12-3 win Thursday
Juan Teixeira bashed Boise early, Cam Phelts peppered the Hawks from start to finish and the Ogden Raptors took their three-game road series at Memorial Stadium with a convincing 12-3 victory Thursday.
Ogden (12-9) damaged Boise starter Alex Smith for seven hits and five walks in the first three innings to take a 9-0 lead.
Phelts led off the game drawing a walk and stealing second; he’d finish hitting 2 for 3 with three walks and four RBIs. Reese Alexiades singled Phelts in, then scored when Teixeira went opposite field for a two-run homer to right-center.
Teixeira singled in Alexiades to start what became a six-run third inning. Phelts singled with the bases loaded to score two, then scored along with Sal Gozzo when Dakota Conners doubled.
Ogden threatened to make it a laugher with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth but only scored once to make it 10-0 when catcher Coleton Horner wore a hit-by-pitch to push across Alexiades.
Lefty starter Jake Mulholland stacked another strong start for the Raptors, getting into the sixth inning before surrendering a run to the Hawks (11-10). Raymond Gil homered for Boise in the sixth to get on the board, making it 10-2.
Mulholland spread 10 hits across seven innings to pick up the win, striking out seven and walking two. He allowed a third run in the seventh on a Sean Skelly RBI single.
Phelts added two for Ogden to reach the final score, doubling home Gozzo and Horner.
Jon Rice pitched around two walks to throw a scoreless eighth for Ogden.
Lefty Chase Stratton finished by throwing the ninth after an apparent move out of the starting rotation and into the bullpen. He walked a batter, gave up a single and another got on board via error but ended the game via strikeout with no damage done.
Teixeira hit 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Alexiades was 2 for 5 with a double and three runs scored.
The Raptors return to Ogden for a three-game series against Idaho Falls (10-11) from Friday through Sunday.
