OGDEN — Elijah Gill’s start was far from ideal in the Ogden Raptors’ 14-5 loss to Grand Junction on Thursday at Lindquist Field. The Valdosta State alum and 2022 Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year allowed an early surge and never calmed the storm.

The Jackalopes (23-39) got their revenge from Wednesday’s 13-3 loss, as Gill (3.0 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 8 ER) ushered in the Raptors’ first loss of the month on a night when Ogden (27-36) dug up just six total hits.

A three-run slam by Grand Junction’s Sam Kuchinksi, sending the ball over the left-field fence, opened the scoring the first. David Rivera’s two-RBI double at the top of the third helped the Jackalopes blow the doors open for an early 8-0 lead.

Giving up another run in the top of the fourth, Ogden registered its second hit of the night – a base hit logged by Cole Jordan – in the bottom side but exited the inning without an answer.

Julian Boyd kept the Jackalopes moving in the fifth, homering with a solo shot to left field. In the sixth, an error off Jordan’s glove allowed Calyn Halvorson to slip home from third to widen the Raptors’ deficit to 11 runs by the seventh.

Ogden’s Landen Barns breathed life into the Raptors’ dugout with a two-RBI single, bringing Elliott Good and Drew Brutcher across the plate. With two outs, Nick Ultsch landed a three-RBI single into a right-field gap to keep the late rally going.

The Raptors, still trailing 11-5 at the top of the ninth, couldn’t slow down Grand Junction at the plate. Dylan Matsuoka gave up three more runs on a passed ball and a two-RBI double by Rivera, and the Jackalopes cruised to a nine-run victory.

Ogden continues its home stand with Grand Junction on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Lindquist Field.
