Ogden Raptors: Stone, Sargent make quick work of Idaho Falls to open series
Mitchell Stone led a strong pitching night and Chris Sargent an attack of clutch hitting to lead the Ogden Raptors to a 10-3 victory Tuesday night at Lindquist Field, opening a six-game series against the Idaho Falls Chukars.
Stone allowed one run on five hits, striking out eight and walking two over five innings to get the win. An RBI single from T Rogers tied the game 1-1 in the third for Idaho Falls but Ogden led 10-1 by the time Stone’s ledger as the pitcher of record was closed.
Ogden (36-43, 14-17 second half) scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Pearce Howard doubled in a run and Landen Barns singled home two to start the rally. Sargent added one of his two bases-loaded singles and Drew Brutcher added one more RBI to put the Raptors up 7-1.
The Raptors racked up nine of their 16 hits in the fourth inning. Sargent hit his second bases-loaded single in the fifth, and Connor Bagnieski scored on a wild pitch for the final margin.
Ogden hit 7 of 16 with runners in scoring position.
Cameron Edmondson (sixth inning), Shane Gustafson (eighth) and Dylan Matsuoka (ninth) combined to face one over the minimum over their three innings out of the Raptors bullpen.
Nicolo Pinazzi silenced Ogden over the final three innings but it was too late for Idaho Falls (32-47, 12-19); he gave up three hits, struck out six and walked zero.
The two teams play again at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
