Ogden Raptors lose 5th straight in 22-10 blowout, ending series with Idaho Falls
If there’s one snapshot of the final stretch for the Ogden Raptors, it might be the start of the ninth inning Sunday evening.
Trailing 15-10, relief pitcher Jon Rice opened the frame with three straight walks to Idaho Falls batters, setting up Jacob Jablonski for a grand slam to center field.
That sequence was part of 16 hits and 13 walks totaled by Chukars batters and the visitors went on to win 22-10, sending the Raptors to their fifth straight loss.
Ogden (36-48, 14-22 second half) is now 12 games below .500 with 12 games left in the season. The Raptors next play three games in Colorado Springs against the Rocky Mountain Vibes, then finish the season at home from Aug. 31 to Sept. 8 aiming to win the Pioneer League attendance crown for the 27th consecutive season.
Ogden led after two innings for the third time in the last four games, going up 6-4 with the help of a Nick Ultsch RBI triple, Chris Sargent RBI double and a solo homer from Elliott Good.
The lead was short-lived after Idaho Falls (37-47, 17-19) plated 10 runs in the top of the third. Mitchell Stone’s night ended early in the frame after two singles, a walk, a hit batter, an RBI groundout and a two-run homer from Tyler Wyatt to put the visitors up 7-6.
Shane Gustafson entered in relief and did not record an out before being replaced; three walks and four singles later, Idaho Falls led 14-6.
Jablonski’s slam gave him a 3-for-4 night at the plate with six RBIs. Outfielder Chase Hanson drove in four for the Chukars.
Sargent hit 3 for 6 to lead Ogden. He, Good, Cole Jordan and Jack Cone each homered.
CHUKARS 12, RAPTORS 4
Raptors starter Gabriel Pacheco couldn’t get out of the first inning and Idaho Falls claimed victory Saturday night.
The Chukars scored five runs in 1/3 of an inning against Pacheco despite tallying just one hit. Pacheco walked the first three batters of the game, then two passed balls plated two runs. Jacob Jablonski doubled to keep the inning going.
Nico Saltaformaggio took the mound for Ogden and two more runs scored (on an error and a bases-loaded walk) before a double-play line out ended the inning.
Idaho Falls led 9-1 after 2 1/2 innings.
Cole Jordan and Connor Bagnieski each had two hits for Ogden.
Grady Morgan hit 3 for 4 and scored three runs for Idaho Falls.
