Newcomer homers to help Ogden Raptors end 8-game losing streak
A late-season addition helped the Ogden Raptors get back into the win column after eight straight losses.
Sam Plash, who had one hit as Ogden’s designated hitter Saturday night, hit a three-run homer to spark a six-run third inning which led the home team to a 12-8 victory over the Rocky Mountain Vibes at Lindquist Field.
The two teams play at 2 p.m. on Sunday and Monday to close the three-game series.
Elliott Good added a two-run double in the third, putting Ogden ahead 8-1.
Rocky Mountain cut that to 8-5 in the top of the fourth, and a Connor Bagnieski solo homer helped the Raptors answer go make it 10-5 after four.
The Vibes chipped away and cut it to 10-8 at the seventh-inning stretch, but Ogden (37-51, 15-25 second half) put the game away with RBI singles from Chris Sargent and Drew Brutcher.
Dylan Matsuoka retired the Vibes in order in the top of the ninth for the save.
Bagnieski, Sargent and Landen Barns each had three hits for Ogden, who outhit Rocky Mountain 16-11. D’Aries Davis and Ernie Yake each had three hits at the top of the Vibes’ order.
