Ogden Raptors pitcher Rafael Vazquez throws a pitch against Northern Colorado on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Lindquist Field in Ogden.

It’s hard to go wrong with a strong start from your pitcher and timely hitting from your batters.

The Ogden Raptors turned in such a game for a second consecutive night, with Rafael Vazquez tossing the visitors to an 11-6 win over the Rocky Mountain Vibes on Friday night in Colorado Springs.

Vazquez went 7 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out five and walking two.

The Vibes (18-19) mostly got to him in the second when Stephen Wilmer drove in two on a single.

Despite a three-run third in which Ogden (19-21) got an RBI single from Nick Ultsch and Pearce Howard drove in Ultsch with a double, Rocky Mountain had the game knotted 3-3 through three when Steven Rivas hit an RBI double.

But Vazquez locked in from there, allowing just one baserunner from the fourth through the seventh innings while striking out three. He ran into trouble in the eighth and exited with runners on first and third, but lefty Quinn Waterhouse struck out a batter looking to end the threat.

The Raptors led 9-3 at that point. Ultsch hit a two-run double to cap a four-run eighth and Raymond Gil added a two-run homer in the ninth to complete Ogden’s scoring.

Ultsch finished 3 for 5 with three RBIs and Gil hit 3 for 4, scoring three runs.

After a 1-2-3 inning Thursday, however, Waterhouse’s recent woes reappeared in the ninth when he walked two and allowed two singles, allowing three runs when the Vibes scored on a groundout after Jon Rice entered to finish the game. Rice retired the two batters he faced to end it.

With the Raptors leading the series 3-1, Ogden and Rocky Mountain play again at 6:35 p.m. Saturday.

Starting at $4.32/week.
