Gil’s 3 home runs lead Ogden in 22-9 beating of Billings

Raymond Gil hit three of his team’s five home runs and the Ogden Raptors opened a three-game series at the Billings Mustangs with a 22-9 victory Tuesday night.
Gil finished the game 4 for 4 with his three homers, a double, five RBIs and six runs scored.
His two-run homer in the fourth helped Ogden open the game with a 9-0 advantage. Gil, who played second and third base in the game, also hit a solo shot in the sixth and a two-run blast in the ninth
First baseman Chris Coipel hit a three-run homer in the second and shortstop Cole Jordan hit a two-run home run in the ninth.
Billings (19-24) briefly cut the score to 9-4 with four runs in the fourth, but Ogden (21-22) answered with six runs in the fifth, bookended by RBI triples from Pearce Howard and Nick Ultsch.
Coipel also drove in five runs for the Raptors and Howard finished 4 for 6 at the plate.
Adrian Santa Cruz enjoyed the run-support victory, allowing five runs (but just one earned) on seven hits in six innings, striking out four and walking one. Shane Gustafson closed the game with 1 2/3 scoreless frames.
Ogden handed Billings starter James Deloatch the loss, plating eight earned runs in his 3 1/3 innings.
Gil moved into a tie for sixth in the Pioneer League leaderboard for home runs, now up to 12 on the season. Missoula’s Adam Fogel is on a record pace, however, with 19 home runs in 39 games played (43 games into the season).
The two teams play again at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday.
