Update: Ogden Raptors final game in Billings delayed by weather, tie changed to Mustangs’ win

By BRETT HEIN - Standard-Examiner | Jul 11, 2024

Editor’s note

After an apparent review of rules, the result of Thursday’s game was changed sometime Friday to an 8-2 Billings victory, giving the Mustangs a 2-1 series win, according to a post from Billings on X, the social media site.

Ogden’s record was 21-24 after that change.

Below is the update originally published at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12.

A scoreless start from Ogden pitcher Rafael Vazquez on Thursday night in Billings took a hit in the fifth inning, fell apart in the sixth inning, then the game went into a long weather delay with the Mustangs leading 8-2.

The delay began at about 8:30 p.m. due to lightning in the area. At some point in the next three hours, the game was called at a 2-2 tie, according to a post on the Mustangs’ website.

That’s apparently because 2-2 was the score as of the most recently completed inning; Billings ended Vazquez’s shutout with a two-run homer in the fifth.

The rules, at least as they have been applied by the Pioneer League, erase the six runs Billings scored in the bottom of the sixth; with two outs, Ogden was in the midst of making its second pitching change of the frame when the game went under delay.

The game will not be finished later or made up, and will end in a tie.

Ogden (21-23-1) is scheduled to play Friday through Sunday in Missoula to end the first half.

Missoula has clinched the first-half championship and the playoff berth that goes with it.

The race for second place, and the half’s second playoff berth in the new no-divisions format, is still alive for four teams: Glacier (27-18), Northern Colorado (26-19), Oakland (25-20) and Boise (24-21).

Boise has a 2-1 head-to-head advantage over Glacier and the two teams face off for the final three games of the half.

The second half begins Monday, July 15, when Ogden hosts Rocky Mountain at Lindquist Field.

Monday is JustServe night, and fans can get one free ticket for every six donated cans of food. It’s also a “Movie Monday” where fans can sit in the outfield and watch Ghostbusters on the scoreboard.

Starting at $4.32/week.
