Raptors pick apart Vibes one base at a time in 13-5 victory Saturday

Standard-Examiner
They didn’t wait for late innings this time, but the Ogden Raptors moved one base at a time to score 12 unanswered runs, turning a 5-1 deficit into a 13-5 win over the Rocky Mountain Vibes on Saturday night in Colorado Springs.
Ogden (25-28, 3-2 second half) totaled 19 hits; 17 were singles.
Both extra-base hits were big ones, with Chris Sargent doubling in two to tie the game 5-5 in the fourth and Nick Ultsch doubling in two more in the fifth for an 8-5 lead. Ultsch is third in the Pioneer League with 64 RBIs.
Otherwise, the Raptors scored one run at a time on one-RBI singles (from Ultsch, Pearce Howard, Jack Cone, Elliott Good, and Cole Jordan twice), on sacrifice flies (one each from Sargent and Cone), and once on an error.
Chris Macca won on the mound for Ogden. He surrendered five runs on eight hits in the first three innings, then turned in scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth.
That gave time for the Raptors to rally against Vibes (23-28, 2-3) starter Nick Powers; Powers left after Sargent tied the game 5-5.
Ogden scored five runs in the fifth inning to take control, with four coming against Rocky Mountain reliever Danny Fox, who recorded just one out.
Landen Barns, Raymond Gil and newcomer True Fontenot (signed after Connor Bagnieski was injured Tuesday) each totaled two singles.
Raptors relievers Shawn Triplett, Quinn Waterhouse, Dylan Matsuoka and Jon Rice each threw one inning, in that order, to finish the game. They combined for four scoreless frames, allowing two hits while striking out six and walking two.
The two teams finish the series at 1:05 p.m. Sunday.
