The Ogden Raptors piled up early runs and went on to defeat the Missoula Paddleheads 12-7 in front of 4,259 fans Wednesday night at Lindquist Field.

While Ogden (25-18) tries to finish the first half of the Pioneer League season with momentum, second-place Missoula (30-14) has gone from first-half title hopes to sweating out the half’s second playoff bid with Yuba-Sutter on its heels with four games left. Oakland (33-11), meanwhile, is three games up in first place with four left despite seeing its 12-game winning streak end in a Knockout Round loss to Rocky Mountain (22-21).

Chris Sargent, Connor Bagnieski and Elliott Good each tallied two hits and two RBIs to lead a balanced Raptors effort at the plate Wednesday night. Ogden outhit Missoula 15-11 and all but one of those 15 hits was a single; Sargent’s fourth-inning solo homer put the home team ahead 5-1.

The Raptors made it 9-2 after five innings with RBI singles from Good, Kyler Stancato, True Fontenot and Bagnieski in the bottom of the fifth.

Rolando Gutierrez Rosario threw the best game of his season in a six-inning start for Ogden, allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out eight and walking four to pick up the win.

The Raptors took a 12-4 lead into the ninth before Adam Fogel (RBI double) and Colin Gordon (two-run homer) touched up Ogden reliever Christian Ciuffetelli for the final margin.

Kenny Oyama hit 3 for 5 and Carmine Lane was 2 for 3 at the plate for Ogden. Gordon was 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead Missoula.

The two teams play again at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Starting at $4.32/week.
