Ogden Raptors infielder Elliott Good, lower right, is greeted in the dugout after scoring in the fifth inning against the Oakland Ballers on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Raimondi Park in Oakland, Calif.Ogden drew nine walks to overcome being outhit 11-6 on Tuesday night and a new first baseman came up with the game-winning swing to give the Raptors a 7-6 victory over the Boise Hawks in the first game of a Pioneer League road series.
Charlie Updegrave, newly added after playing three college seasons at NAIA power Lewis-Clark State College, had the final and winning hit for Ogden (6-7) in the top of the seventh. Chris Sargent walked and Elliott Good was hit by a pitch; with one out, Updegrave doubled to right field to score both of them and put the Raptors up 7-6.
Boise (7-6) mounted all of its offense against Ogden starter Bryson Van Sickle but didn’t threaten to score against the Raptors’ bullpen. Jestin Jones, Cameron Edmondson and Nik Cardinal allowed just two Boise baserunners over the final 3 1/3 innings (one walk, one hit) while striking out five.
The Raptors took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Good sacrifice fly but Boise soon led 5-1 after two inning on two RBI singles, an RBI groundout, and two run-scoring errors.
A Sargent RBI single in the fifth and Cole Jordan driving in two in the sixth tied the game 5-5 before Maxfield Jung-Goldberg closed the book on Van Sickle with a run-scoring single in the bottom half, putting Boise ahead 6-5.
That set up Updegrave with the winner in the seventh. He was the Raptors’ only multi-hit batter of the game, going 2 for 4. Damian Stone drew three walks in the leadoff spot and scored twice, and fellow outfielder Kenny Oyama drew two walks and scored twice.
Van Sickle allowed six earned runs on 10 hits, striking out five and walking one. Ogden pitchers struck out 10 and walked two.
Paul Myro and Jake Hjelle each had two hits for Boise.
The six-game series continues at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
