A setting sun illuminates the mountains as the Ogden Raptors play the Idaho Falls Chukars on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Lindquist Field in Ogden. The Ogden Raptors won their first series of the season Wednesday with a 10-1 victory over Great Falls, taking the first two games of the three-game set by a combined score of 31-2.
Eli Elliott provided six good innings on the mound for Ogden (10-10), allowing one run on six hits while striking out seven and walking two.
The Raptors’ bullpen was again better, holding last-place Great Falls (2-18) to one baserunner (a walk) over the final three innings. Christian Ciuffetelli (seventh inning) and Cameron Edmondson (eighth) each struck out two before Nik Cardinal got three infield outs in the ninth to end the game.
Great Falls scored in the top of the first on a Freddy Rojas Jr. double. The Voyagers’ only main threat the rest of the way came in the second when an Alec Patino double put runners on second and third with no outs, but Elliott struck out two and induced a bases-loaded infield popout to get out of it.
Outfielder Kyler Stancato hit 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead Ogden at the plate, including an RBI double in the sixth that made the score 6-1. The Raptors scored four in the second inning to take the lead and four more in the seventh to take full control.
True Fontenot hit 4 for 4 with a double and scored three runs. Carmine Lane and Cole Jordan each added two hits, with Jordan hitting a double.
Luke Helton also went six in a start for Great Falls but allowed eight earned runs on 12 hits.
The two teams finish the series at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Ogden then welcomes in the Oakland Ballers for a three-game series Friday through Sunday.
