Homerfest continues as Sargent’s 2 give Ogden Raptors 3rd win over Owlz

A crowd of 4,462 fans enjoyed six home runs, four of them by the homestanding Raptors, and Ogden won its third straight over Northern Colorado with a 17-4 cruise at Lindquist Field.
The Raptors (18-15) have outscored the Owlz (5-27) by a tally of 41-8 midway through the six-game series.
Raptors catcher Chris Sargent went yard twice Thursday, upping his season total to 11 homers. That’s good for fourth in the Pioneer League, with his four RBIs pushing his second-best RBI total to 56.
The Owlz tied things up 2-2 in the top of the third, and it was infielder True Fontenot who got the homerfest going with a two-run shot in the bottom half. Sargent’s first homer was a solo shot in the fourth, with an Evan Blum RBI double helping Ogden’s lead grow to 8-2 through four.
Sargent and Blum each hit three-run home runs in the fifth inning to put the game away with a 15-3 tally.
Quintt Landis (fifth inning) and TJ McKenzie (seventh) hit solo homers for Northern Colorado’s only runs after the third inning.
Sargent and Blum each drove in four runs. Fontenot finished 4 of 6 with three RBIs. Bagnieski had three RBIs.
Rolando Gutierrez got the win on the mound, allowing three runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Christian Ciuffetelli gave up the McKenzie homer in the seventh, which was Northern Colorado’s only hit against four Raptors relievers (Jestin Jones, Cameron Edmondson, Nik Cardinal). Ogden pitchers struck out 12 and walked six.
Owlz starter Trey Watson took the ERA hit for the visitors, pitching four innings, recording zero outs and allowing both homers in the seven-run fifth, and giving up 15 earned runs on 15 hits before exiting.
The teams play again at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
