Ogden Raptors infielder Elliott Good, lower right, is greeted in the dugout after scoring in the fifth inning against the Oakland Ballers on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Raimondi Park in Oakland, Calif.

After a stunning, late defeat Tuesday to open the season, the Ogden Raptors left much less to chance the next time out to pick up their first win of the season.

True Fontenot doubled twice and drove in five runs, Ogden scored six runs in the first inning and the Raptors went on to a 12-5 victory over the Oakland Ballers on Wednesday night at Raimondi Park in Oakland.

Connor Bagnieski and newcomer Carmine Lane each singled in a run to open the contest before Carter Mize — a first baseman who hit .397 in 18 games with Rocky Mountain last year — launched Ogden’s first home run of the season, a two-run shot, for a 4-0 lead.

Fontenot, a second baseman in his second season as a Raptor, brought up the nine-spot with a two-run double and a 6-0 lead.

That proved to be all the runs Ogden (1-1) would need. Chase Chatman, a new lefty to the roster, allowed four runs on five hits, striking out six and walking four in a four-inning start. He departed with an 8-4 lead. Returner Shane Gustafson allowed one unearned run on two hits over two innings, leaving with a 10-5 advantage.

Nik Cardinal, a Fresno State alum who appears to have last pitched professionally in The Netherlands in 2023, shut down the final three innings for Ogden. He earned the save by allowing zero hits while striking out two and walking one.

Oakland starter Zach St. Pierre lasted just two innings, allowing eight runs (just one earned) on seven hits.

Fontenot finished 3 for 4 and his two-RBI double in the fifth had the Raptors up 10-2. Ogden wrapped up the scoring in the seventh when Fontenot singled home Damian Stone and scored on a Kenny Oyama double.

Stone hit 3 for 4 and scored three runs. Oyama and Mize each had two hits as Ogden outhit Oakland 14-7. Davis Drewek homered for the Ballers (1-1); Tremayne Cobb Jr. and Cam Bufford were Oakland’s multi-hit batters with two hits apiece.

The two teams play again at 7:35 p.m. MDT Thursday.

Idaho Falls, Rocky Mountain and defending champ Yuba-Sutter (formerly Yolo) are all 2-0 to start the Pioneer Baseball League season. Rocky Mountain hit five home runs and blasted Northern Colorado 25-7 on Wednesday.

Starting at $4.32/week.
