Oakland Ballers take series lead over Ogden Raptors with 9-2 victory Saturday

By BRETT HEIN - Standard-Examiner | May 24, 2025

Ogden’s two-game offensive surge continued its corresponding two-game dip Saturday night as the Raptors took a 9-2 defeat on the road against the Oakland Ballers in a quick game of 2 hours and 8 minutes.

The Raptors (2-3) scored 12 and 13 runs in wins Wednesday and Thursday but have tallied just three runs in the two games (16-1, 9-2) since. Ogden didn’t score until the ninth inning of Saturday’s loss.

After Friday’s three-hitter, Oakland (3-2) pitcher Reed Butz suppressed Ogden for zero runs on three hits, striking out two and walking one, in a seven-inning start Saturday. The Raptors tallied two runs on four hits in the ninth against Adam Bogosian, with Ogden avoiding the shutout on a two-run Chris Sargent single.

Marques Titialii homered for the second straight night, a two-run shot in the fourth, to put Oakland up 5-0. Those five runs were charged to Raptors starter Samuel Bass, who took the loss by allowing seven hits and four earned runs in five innings.

Davis Drewek also homered on consecutive nights; his two-run home run off Nico Saltaformaggio made it 7-0 through seven.

Outfielder Damian Stone led Ogden at the plate, going 3 for 4 in the leadoff spot as the team’s only multi-hit batter.

The teams conclude the series at 2:05 p.m. MDT Sunday. After a Monday travel day, the Raptors play their home opener at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, hosting Yuba-Sutter.

Elsewhere around the Pioneer League, Rocky Mountain and Northern Colorado played a Saturday doubleheader and the Vibes are on top of the PBL early with a 6-0 mark against the seemingly lowly Owlz. RMV has scored 103 runs in the series and has four hitters batting over .500 so far. It appears the teams play another doubleheader Sunday for eight total in Colorado Springs, then take Monday through Wednesday off before playing four games in Windsor.

Idaho Falls is 5-0 against Boise and goes for the sweep Sunday. Yuba-Sutter is 4-1 against Grand Junction to claim an early third place.

Starting at $4.32/week.
