With one out left in the game, a Colson Lawrence walk led to a series of plays that saw the Ogden Raptors complete a late-innings rally with a 6-5, walk-off victory over the Long Beach Coast in the final game for manager Evan Parker on Sunday at Lindquist Field in Ogden.

Parker, who became the first Ogden native to play for the Raptors in 2022, closes his managerial job with a ledger of 131-126 with the victory. He announced in June he’d accepted a job as assistant athletic director and head baseball coach at Judge Memorial Catholic High School in Salt Lake City.

The Raptors (38-28, 9-9 second half) were on track to give Parker a sleepy finale, trailing 5-1 after five innings. Chase Valentine and Cole Jordan each drove in a run in the seventh to cut it to 5-3.

Garrett Bevacqua socked a solo homer to right-center in the eighth, making it 5-4.

But Long Beach reliever Gary Grosjean retired three straight batters, getting the final out in the eighth and needing only three more pitches in the ninth to push Ogden to its final out of the game.

That brought up Lawrence. After fouling off seven pitches, including five straight, Lawrence drew ball four on the 11th pitch of the at-bat to extend the game.

Long Beach (50-16, 13-5) fell apart there. Bevacqua reached on an error and Grosjean hit Tyler Ganus to load the bases. After Dylan Wilkinson appeared to have at least tied the game on a ball up the left-field line, which was ultimately ruled foul, he grounded into what should have ended the game.

But visiting second baseman Patrick Roche Jr. overthrew Cooper Vest at first and the Coast couldn’t track the ball down in time, sending Lawrence and Bevacqua home for the tying and winning runs.

The win helped Ogden split the home series 3-3 with the Coast, giving league-leading Long Beach nearly 20% of the club’s losses this season.

Parker, 33, has been with the Raptors since 2021. After overcoming the latest in a string of arm injuries, he took the field in 2022 and was pitching coach in 2023 before a promotion to manager in 2024. This season, Parker became the youngest manager in the 87-year history of the PBL to reach 100 managing wins.

The Raptors next travel with interim manager Ed Campaniello, the hitting and bench coach, to Missoula, Montana, for a six-game series against the Paddleheads (37-28, 13-5).

Ogden is four games back of Missoula with the Paddleheads currently in position to grab a second-half playoff berth (with 30 games remaining). The Modesto Roadsters (44-22) have feasted on a diet of the two worst teams in the Pioneer League (Yuba-Sutter and RedPocket, a combined 33-99) to get out to a 17-1 start to the second half.
