Beehive in bowl games: BYU headlines Pop-Tarts Bowl; Utah heads to Vegas, USU to Idaho

By BRETT HEIN - Standard-Examiner | Dec 7, 2025

After being snubbed from the College Football Playoff, BYU’s consolation is a trip to Orlando, Florida.

BYU (11-2), finishing No. 12 in the final CFP rankings, will face No. 22 Georgia Tech (9-3) as the Cougars headline the Pop-Tarts Bowl, which has quickly become one of the most interesting events of bowl season.

The Pop-Tarts Bowl is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. MST on Saturday, Dec. 27, at Camping World Stadium. The game will air on ABC.

Many assumed the Pop-Tarts Bowl, essentially positioned as the top bowl outside the playoffs, would pit BYU and Notre Dame in a matchup but Notre Dame announced Sunday afternoon it was skipping bowl season after it was not selected for the CFP.

No. 15 Utah (10-2) gets to stay close with a New Year’s Eve trip to Las Vegas. The Utes will take on Nebraska (7-5) in the Las Vegas Bowl at 1:30 p.m. MST Wednesday, Dec. 31, on ESPN. That’s played in Allegiant Stadium, home of the Raiders.

Utah State is bowling close to home, too, headed back to the blue turf of Boise State. The Aggies (6-6) will play Washington State (6-6) in the Idaho Potato Bowl. That’s scheduled for Monday, Dec. 22, with a noon kickoff on ESPN.

Washington State will play with an interim head coach after Jimmy Rogers’ one-season stay ended with Rogers leaving to take the job at Iowa State once Penn State, snubbed by BYU’s Kalani Sitake, took Matt Campbell from Iowa State.

Utah State is playing in its fourth bowl game in the last five years and its 12th in the last 15 years after playing in six bowl games in its first 119 years.

Starting at $4.32/week.
