BYU's AJ Dybantsa (3) rises for a jumper over Keba Keita (13) during a public team scrimmage on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, at the Marriott Center in Provo.

BYU is one of four schools across the country to land in the Associated Press Top 25 rankings for FBS college football and for Division I men’s basketball.

After the AP released the latest football rankings Sunday and men’s basketball preseason rankings Monday, BYU joins Alabama, Tennessee and Texas Tech to land the distinction.

BYU’s double-overtime win over Arizona moved the football Cougars to 6-0 this season and up to No. 15 in the national poll.

Running back LJ Martin was named the Big 12 Conference’s offensive player of the week with a career-high 162 yards on 25 carries in the win; he’s sixth nationally with 108.7 rushing yards per game. Quarterback Bear Bachmeier got his fourth freshman of the week honors from the conference, passing for 172 yards and running for 89.

That helps set up a huge rivalry week with Utah after the Utes did their part, blasting No. 21 Arizona in a 42-10 victory. Utah, now 5-1 this season, re-entered the AP Top 25 at No. 23.

That matchup in Provo will have increased attention after FOX selected BYU to host its Saturday morning show “Big Noon Kickoff,” which will broadcast live on campus from 8-10 a.m. MDT. The show is anchored by Rob Stone and features former Utah coach Urban Meyer with former players Mark Ingram, Matt Leinart and Brady Quinn.

FOX also has the game broadcast at 6 p.m. Saturday with Jason Benetti and Robert Griffin III on the call.

Meanwhile, on the hardwood, hype mounts for BYU after signing the nation’s No. 1 freshman in AJ Dybantsa, retaining All-Big 12 First Team player Richie Saunders, and bringing in several transfers like Baylor’s Robert Wright III.

So, BYU enters the 2025-26 season ranked No. 8 nationally by media voters. The Cougars finished the 2024-25 season at No. 13 after going 26-10, finishing tied for third in the Big 12 and losing to Alabama in the Sweet 16.

BYU plays an exhibition at Nebraska on Saturday, Oct. 18, then hosts North Carolina in an exhibition on Friday, Oct. 24, at the Delta Center. The Cougars open the regular season Nov. 3 in Las Vegas, taking on Villanova.
