Utah Men’s State Am golf: Bowen Mauss repeats as champion

By BRETT HEIN - Standard-Examiner | Jul 11, 2026

The Utah Men’s State Amateur Golf Championship celebrated a repeat champion for the first time since 2019 as Bowen Mauss lifted the cup for the second straight year in the 128th annual tournament on Saturday at Soldier Hollow in Midway.

Mauss is a native of Draper and is headed into his second season at Arizona State University. He defeated 38-year-old Cameron Crawford 9 and 7 in the 36-hole, match-play championship round.

Based on the two-day, stroke-play rounds to decide the 64 players who advanced to match play, Mauss was the No. 49 seed in the bracket but leaned on the same skill that won him the 127th State Am last year in Logan.

Mauss was also the player who knocked out one of just two Northern Utah golfers to reach the quarterfinals; he bested Layton native David Liechty (a Utah Tech to BYU transfer) in 19 holes Friday morning.

Recently graduated Box Elder High alum Kanyon DeRyke also reached the quarterfinals, losing to Noah Moody (2 up).

As the State Am winner, Mauss gets a berth into the U.S. Amateur Championship from Aug. 10-16 in Pennsylvania, and a spot in the PGA Tour’s Bank of Utah Championship fall tournament in southern Utah.

The 2027 State Am is scheduled for Willow Creek Country Club in Sandy.

Starting at $4.32/week.
